In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025.
Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.

Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.
Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.

There would be a lot of amusing sudden changes of heart in the audience, if this was announced and tickets went on sale tomorrow. People who had given up on Morrissey solo for the past several years, and denounced him as a right-wing 'racist' would be smiling in the front row. But also those who've been vociferously slagging off everything Johnny does would suddenly be sucking up to him. It would be almost worth it just to see everyone doing an about face.

Interesting timing to mention this now after Noel & Liam have blow up the internet/press/news cycle (without a "lucrative offer" from a corporation) decide to communicate & subsequently bury the hatchet. Years of banter, baiting and sometimes hilarious exchanges end, and the process to move forward grows organically.
If Morrissey was so interested why not mention this sooner? Not once does he mention talking to his band mate about the idea, something that would surely need to happen if there was every going to be a chance of a reunion. Most respectable band decisions are not handled in cubicles of a corporate office.
Seems with the incredible amount of coverage and Oasis hoopla everywhere, M is in the background trying to remind people of the significance of The Smiths. The Smiths are the best thing in indie history, but M is somewhat embarrassing himself with the "look at me, I am here" and the gaslighting of Johnny Marr. The same Johnny Marr he asked to keep his name out of interviews when asked about The Smiths.

Devil's argument:
Maybe other artists treat their concert paying fans better?

If Morrissey can’t play, he can’t play. Or should he continue to play a show or shows where he will not be able to do what his fans have payed for? And that of course brings us to the question.. what kind of fan is it that expects the artist to act like a human jukebox or seal and do what they’ve payed them to do for the price of a ticket? I guess they want the artist to have no integrity at all.

Noel told that 'yet here I am' anecdote about Morrissey. He didn't tell it about any other singer or musician.
Why would Noel? Unless there are other artists out there like Morrissey, which as we know there are not, and never will be.
Maybe Johnny has more integrity and doesn't want to be associated with someone who behaves like that?

Integrity? in regards to popularity? Yeah, it seems Johnny’s very sensitive to what the public thinks of him, and maybe he considers what his son will think of him too.
Maybe so. But at the end of the day, whose music will you be listening to?

When I listen to The Smiths - it's Johnny's music.

That’s funny, because when I listen to The Smiths - it’s music by The Smiths.

Just can’t wrap my head around Moz agreeing to this if they have had no contact - was not that long ago he was telling Marr not to mention him when doing interviews.
After that statement, if I was Johnny I would have completely given Moz the cold shoulder, said 'f*ck this guy' and ignored any future attempt at communication. If Morrissey had attempted to get in touch regarding an offer, it wouldn't surprise me if Johnny simply deleted the email without ever reading it.

I don't hate someone just for having different political views. Marr is being a baby.

I don't know why people keep harping on political views, it's not just the political views! Marr does not like Morrissey as a person. If you leave a toxic relationship, you go back at the peril of your wellbeing.

What would be the point? Who would play bass and drums? The Smiths were Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce, and since Rourke is dead and Joyce is forever persona non grata, they wouldn’t be The Smiths. Morrissey & Marr, sure, but not The Smiths.

And since Moz has been a ridiculed and despised pariah for the past decade or so, is he hoping that some of that old Smiths glory would rub off on him and make people forget modern day Moz? Marr doesn’t need it. He probably has enough money, is universally loved and revered and he is staying busy and out of trouble. Who knows.

I do wish they would bury any possible hatchet, though, and I would cry with joy if they collaborated again. Morrissey sure would need it. Both would, to some extent.

I would far, far prefer to hear the collaborate in the studio and do something NEW, rather than take the hackneyed 'live greatest hits stadium tour for cash' option.

Having said that, I'd still go.

I didn’t use the word hate. I said dislike. Johnny Marr just doesn’t like Morrissey anymore, and wants nothing to do with him. The only people who do are crazed fans, and non-entity musicians with nothing else going for them. Even Alain Whyte walked away from the shit-show Morrissey has become.

Why does everybody forget to acknowledge that arguably the greatest guitar wizard to come out of the 1980’s is easily hands down Brian Setzer of Stray Cats fame? Weather or not you dig their retro rockabilly vibe or not is irrelevant. That guy can play anything on his big old Gretsch guitar. Jazz, rockabilly, country chicken picking, rock, anything really.

because it's not just about technical skill playing, but the ability to actually write extremely high quality songs.

I really don’t think Jesse would be phased that much by this Central post or the idea that Morrissey would spend one year touring with Marr
If by 'not fazed' you mean 'fuming and about ready to commit a murder', I agree. ,😉

Joyce will not be involved at all.

I remember being a kid in 1993, I think there was a magazine article, an interview with Marr, where he said if they ever reformed it would just be him and Morrissey.

But I could be conflating interviews. They both talked a lot back then about each other and it was a long time ago.

this.

personally, i think this is Morrissey's way of saying out loud that he's open to it and now they both can come to the table for a possible tour in a couple years -- it'll take a lot of lawyers and a lot of planning.

let's also not forget that Marr only started openly dissing Morrissey on the regular after Morrissey stood him up on the reunion tour after they got drunk and settled their past grievances at a bar a decade or so ago.

I know they take and that they take in turn
And they give you nothing real for yourself in return
But when they've used you and they've broken you and wasted all your money and
Cast your shell aside
And when they've bought you and they've sold you and they've billed you for the pleasure and they've made your parents cry
I will be HERE
