Who knows? Maybe Johnny has signed some form of 'morality clause' with his record company? Although not a new thing, morality clauses have become increasingly standard now for people working in publishing, advertising, and TV and film. I would imagine in music too. As well as allowing a contract to be terminated if someone commits a crime, they also allow a contract to be terminated for merely saying or doing something that arouses public condemnation. And by public condemnation read social media / mainstream media condemnation. Morrissey wouldn't survive 2 minutes with such a clause. Remember how quickly Róisín Murphy had to backtrack from her (perfectly reasonable) comments on trans? The days when an artist can say what they want are dead and gone. Morrissey is the last of a dying breed. Perhaps it is understandable why Johnny wants to stay far, far away? Stay safe, Johnny. He did say he always hated all those punk bands.

Marr can reliably go on tour as the main act, he can go on tour as the support act, he can be a special guest, he can join different bands, he can work on movie soundtracks, he can create books, signature guitars and do speaking engagements.

All without any drama, he has a nice, super healthy and comfortable life and a happy, stable family etc. And 99.9% of the population have no issues with the guy

He would have to be really bored of all that to go anywhere near and attach his name to Morrissey and the potential car crash of cancelled dates and political pr disasters, for some bloke he doesn't like and a bloke who doesn't like him much either.

Marr doesn't have to be Einstein or a perfect angel/the nicest guy in the music industry(whatever the weird standard you hold him to for some reason)to want nothing to do with that shit in his 60s

If Marr hadn't been in the Smiths and was just Barry Bumbridge from Barry and the Donuts, no one would buy it, in fact most people would laugh at the cringeness of the music/lyrics and his grandma doing the gardening dress sense .....

I would go to these for James alone. Apparently they were in South Africa in 2018. I must have been living under a rock - hardly anyone comes here but I completely missed it!
