In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025.
Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.

Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.
Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.

I didn't mean to imply you were expecting anything, Just that M&M clearly have no time for each other,
actually it seems that M does have time for Marr.
if Marr had said yes then Moz would have found a reason to say no so he could make a similar New Order joke lol
Nah. Why would he say yes now publicly after years of saying no, and risk making himself look the fool? It clearly looks like he means it, regardless of what Marr’s reaction was to the offer.
With the Oasis reunion you're essentially getting the same Oasis but with more grey hair and a slightly better chance that Liam won't push Noel over the edge before the tour finishes.
Apples to oranges. The Smiths are legends. Oasis? just another unoriginal band that happened during Britpop. And who cares if people still want to see them now. Doesn’t mean the music was ever any good.

Musically M&M would be incredible but I don't think there's anything there that could make them want to be on stage together for more than ten minutes

Who said that they would agree to play longer than 10 minutes?

Jokes aside. What would make them want to be on stage together for more than ten minutes? Ah, don’t underestimate the power of music! It brought them together then, and can still bring them together now. Even if for different reasons.

the only way to be in ‘25? Is handsome, two handsome devils

you wonder what they would even sing as M has said his voice isnt suited to a lot of smiths songs now.

well I wonder. ;)

Anyway, they can always lower the key for some.

speaking of billy duffy if anyone is interested the morrissey bio-pic england is mine is on youtube to watch, scottish actor jack lowden is quite good as M and its worth a watch if you have 94minutes to spare.

I saw that at the cinema when it came out. It ended up getting quite slated, but I must say that I enjoyed it for what it was.

Probably time I took another look at it with fresh eyes.

Morrissey addressed these same words to an Israeli audience in 2012 - https://www.jpost.com/Arts-and-Culture/Music/War-is-old-art-is-young

Is it a quote from anywhere else? I can't find it, although graffiti around the command, make art, not war is more plentiful

Exactly. Despite Marr's Farage tweet, I don't think it's about political differences. Imagine being Johnny Marr, agreeing to the reunion, only to wake up one day in a hotel room in Milwaukee or something and seeing Morrissey all over on TV saying something like "well, we could tour Germany, but does that mean Germans will get to see the Smiths?" or something, Then your phone beeps immediately with 800 messages all saying "run until you can" and another 900 calls from news outlets to comment on it...then you walk down to Milwaukee Stadium or whatever for the soundcheck only to learn Morrissey took an early morning plane back to Switzerland or wherever, leaving you behind to clean the mess up.
I am convinced Marr considered this and thought "there's not enough money for me to put up with this".
Although what you describe is more like what Morrissey must have gone through when Marr, quietly packed and booked ahead, walked away unannounced.

This is what is interesting about Marr's quiet departure from the Smiths and the current non-response to the AEG offer: He's using Morrissey's technique of non-confrontation and leaving without explanation.

Morrissey ghosted lots of people in the Smiths and all throughout his career. Turnabout is fair play. Apparently the Mozzer doesn't like it when it's done to him.

Any response from Mr Marr yet?

I believe a vast majority of us wants to see them both on a stage playing those great tunes we love so much....!

They should bury the hatchet, have a hug, and sign the AEG contract!

We love you guys, time is short don't be cruel!

'If it's not love, then it's the bomb that will bring us together'

I completely agree, would love to see a reunion and wish somehow it could work out. It'd be a dream come true for a lot of us indeed. I'm getting ready to see Johnny and James in a few weeks and was watching some videos of JM, and while he is to me one of the finest, most incredible and talented guitarists and musicians who ever walked the face of this Earth, when I heard him sing Smiths songs it took a moment of getting used to since I was so used to hearing Morrissey's incomparable gorgeous voice sing them originally. But it will be fabulous to see the legend Marr. Anywho I'll be watching and waiting and hoping.

Deserting what was assumed to be a formal partnership without a backward glance, mid-contracts, does say something about who was committed and who wasn't.

I think Marr would have had to have himself committed to the loony bin if he continued with The Smiths and the situation at the time.

No, it says something about how close to breaking point Marr had come, how worn out and desperate he felt with the situation he was in and how no attempt at talking to the others about it had worked.

At the moment, I am no longer believing this claim because no one else has commented on it

You mean you think there never was an offer from AEG? I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere either. Was Morrissey was just trying to insert himself in the Oasis wall to wall news hype? Do you think he may have lied about it?

I think the best thing Johnny could say is "What offer? What is he talking about?"

his voice is terrible, its soulless, take away his guitar playing and he would be working on a building site.
east coast elite, sounds like an escort agency.
Johnny doesn't sing well but it gets to me... Johnny live is great, Moz is on another obvious level. But Moz doesn't play two notes on the guitar, each with its own thing... And from that magical, almost alchemical mix resulted a legendary, iconic and crazy band: the Smiths, VIVA MOZ and MARR

I think Morrissey is trying to get in the news and it worked. If he wasn't such an expert proven liar, I would not be doubting it.
On the other hand, if it's true, and Johnny just ignored the offer Morrissey is probably dying to know why and is trying to make this a public conversation and force Johnny to respond. I think Johnny should just stay silent because I don't think he should respond to anything Morrissey says or give these rabid unrealistic fans any hope. And to be perfectly honest, reading on here that there is some sexual component to the problems between them is just sickening. Just because a man is gay or bi doesn't mean he is lusting after his married friend or his friend who had a girlfriend when they met. Reducing this to sex is really kind of perverted.
