In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025.
Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.

Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.
Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.

He certainly killed Morrissey's legacy...
trev you have been awarded the trophy for the laziest poster in morrisseysolo history with a whopping 10 posts in 12 years.
i look forward to your 20th message in 2036.

Although Johnny Marr referenced Nigel Farage, I think the real deal-breaker for him is Morrissey's endorsement of the explicitly anti-Muslim group 'For Britain', an endorsement that Morrissey has never apologised for or recanted of.

If Johnny Marr were to share a stage with someone who remains unapologetic about endorsing a specifically racist and bigoted ideological group then his reputation would be similarly destroyed.

Morrissey is, once again, completely delusional in believing that he was ever more than 25% of The Smiths.

He is musically autistic, lost in a self-referential fantasy that posits The Singer as paramount and privileged above The Guitarist , The Bass Player and The Drummer.

In his bizarre worldview The Smiths existed as a vehicle for his self-aggrandising wittering and he allowed his legal representative to dismiss 50% of The Smiths as replaceable lawnmower parts.

He's now a truly desperate and pathetic spectacle. Having spent nearly four decades as a karaoke 🎤 tribute act impersonating the singer in The Smiths, this troubled soul now imagines he can foist his tribute act nonsense onto the gullible 'clueless consumers' under the brand name of The Smiths. Ridiculous twit so he is.

The Smiths can never reform because one quarter of that radical art collective, Andy Rourke, has died.

Even if Andy Rourke were still alive, there's also the vexed issue of The Drummer..

Led Zeppelin without John Bonham isn't Led Zeppelin.

Black Sabbath without Bill Ward isn't Black Sabbath.

The Smiths without Mike Joyce isn't The Smiths.

Because Morrissey is musically illiterate he simply cannot grasp that his fantasy that he is more important than the other members of The Smiths is nonsensical.

He appears to be lost in all manner of absurd notions which privilege the vocal melody and lyrics above the rhythm section. Only a musically ignorant moron would ever spout such drivel.

If a project called 'Morrissey and Marr interpret The Smiths' were to be billed as such, that would be fine. Probably an anodyne rehash of the past but harmless enough.

However, having been publically exposed as having financially disadvantaged both The Drummer and The Bass Player, it would be outrageous to now try to profit further from exploiting the contributions of Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce using hired session musicians to impersonate their musical genius.

I'm pretty sure Johnny Marr is cognisant of the likely consequences of publicly associating with Morrissey without his former band mate issuing a public apology for endorsing For Britain.

Using the image of Nigel Farage is, in fact, a diplomatic gesture as it avoids reigniting the unresolved issue of Morrissey's disgraceful endorsement of For Britain.

I've no idea if Johnny Marr also feels it would be tasteless to replace Andy Rourke with a session musician but I m certain it would be a grotesque facsimile of The Smiths.

R.I.P Andy Rourke

Best wishes

AND THAT WAS A PARTY POLITICAL BROADCAST FOR THE BRUMMIE BOY PARTY.
when magazines were putting the smiths on a cover most of the time it was the singer, the nme were known as the new morrissey express,he was the face of the group and was worth more than 25%.

Would I be happier Morrissey getting together Boorer, Whyte, Day and Cobrin. The Classic Morrissey line up to tour a Pre Maldjusted set list? Than this not Really The Smiths thing? I think I would.
The promoters are interested in the big bucks that 'The Smiths' would pull in, they couldn't care less about a 'classic Morrissey lineup or a pre-Maladjusted set list'.
They care even less about what YOU would be happier to see.

Golden Boy Johnny is just a vitue signaling plank who wants to please his lefty mates, whilst sensibly losing out on millions. His sideman status suits him well.

Thank you. Johnny sounds really upbeat and decent.

One day in September 2008 we were only a couple of miles apart in south Manchester and arranged to meet up in a pub nearby. I was happy to see him – it was 10 years or more since we’d last met. We caught up with personal news and family and reminisced a bit.”

Then our conversation turned to deeper things. Morrissey started to talk about how our relationship had become owned by the outside world, usually in a negative way. We had been defined by each other in most areas of our professional life. I appreciated him mentioning it, because it was true.”

“The drinks kept coming and we sat talking for hours. We chatted, as we always did, about the records we loved, and eventually we moved on to “that subject”. There had been rumours for years that The Smiths were about to re-form, and they were always untrue. I had never pursued any offer.”

“Suddenly we were talking about the possibility of the band reforming, and in that moment it seemed that with the right intention it could actually be done and might even be great. I would still work with the Cribs on our album, and Morrissey also had an album due out. We hung out for a while longer, and after even more orange juice (for me) and even more beer (for him) we hugged and said our goodbyes.”

“I was genuinely pleased to be back in touch with Morrissey, and The Cribs and I talked about the possibility of me playing some shows with The Smiths. For four days it was a very real prospect. We would have to get someone new on drums [original drummer Mike Joyce sued Morrissey and Marr over royalties in 1996], but if The Smiths wanted to re-form it would make a hell of a lot of people very happy, and with all our experience we might even be better than before.”

I wonder why he’s changed so much since then.

I don't think deep down, that he actually has changed from that standpoint.

I think he just feels the requirement to project like he has, due to some innate fear of being cancelled.

Like someone previously pointed out, Johnny is quite happy to share lots of time with Billy Duffy, who apparently holds some very 'interesting' views of his own.

Yes, he did. He also told Dane thingymajig that he could never stand on stage with people whom he didn't like (just for money). He has spoken countless times about why he would never reform but hey, we all know how much he loves money and he spent millions in the past few years with very little coming in.

Providing they're going to be in their 20's again and also write a new LP then I'm in favour of it. Failing that, it would still be interesting to see how they interact. When with different people there is a tendency to modify how we present ourselves, particularly with people that knew you in your youth, a dropping of the airs and graces. Could go the opposite way in their case.

speaking of billy duffy if anyone is interested the morrissey bio-pic england is mine is on youtube to watch, scottish actor jack lowden is quite good as M and its worth a watch if you have 94minutes to spare.
i think every acts agent uses M as a warning,if you say or do the wrong thing then the cash cow is gone and you will have to get a real job.

That may be so, but that situation wasn't unique to The Smiths. Many musicians in many bands have not received 'correctly proportional' revenue; credited songwriters have frequently taken the lion's share of cash.

Not that it's necessarily right - that's a separate debate. But I don't think you can single out Morrissey and Marr for such activities.

Well, Morrissey ran back to Alain in 2021.

Now he's running back to Johnny.

Watch out Streety!
And you ran with your pals in the sun
You turned around and they were gone
Again...

Yes - if only he were more money-orientated, as great creative artists should be...

Yes, and as we know, all great artists must be poor to be creative.

Anyway, Johnny’s not dumb, why do you think he’s scared of being associated with M?
Why do you think he does all these support slots, and churns out the slop his fans call music? He’s not dumb, he’s money-orientated, he has a family to support, and he cares about what people think of him = money.
