In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025.
Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.

Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.
Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.

I think Morrissey is extremely jealous of the Oasis reunion and is trying to take over the news cycle, while also telling everyone I am the good guy who wanted to tour for you, Johnny is not.
This is it! The ball is rolling. Calling each other's bluff.
It's going to happen.

well the only person who can say its true or false is marr.

No it won't. Morrissey needs it, Johnny does not and even if there was a speck of a chance, Morrissey killed it with this post.

Ah, the old Spotify thing again. The biggest gig The Smiths ever did in the UK was at G-Mex supporting New Order.
but is true that The Smiths are more popular among millennials and centennials than New Order tho.

Exactly so.
Look, I think Marr to be a great guitarist. For me, the holy triad of the 80s was Peter Buck, Marr and Billy Duffy. Just my opinion.
What is NOT my opinion is that if the statement on MC is so, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, then it's an incredibly selfish move.
There are generations, plural, of fans who haven't seen The Smiths because they were either too young or too poor to get to see them in their early go-rounds.

This post makes me incredibly sad. Not one to say "stay together for the sake of the children" but if these two could please work it out, even just once, for all of us whose lives were saved by their music---how grand would it be?
Why does everybody forget to acknowledge that arguably the greatest guitar wizard to come out of the 1980’s is easily hands down Brian Setzer of Stray Cats fame? Weather or not you dig their retro rockabilly vibe or not is irrelevant. That guy can play anything on his big old Gretsch guitar. Jazz, rockabilly, country chicken picking, rock, anything really.

Johnny has 22 dates here, spanning Sept and Oct but Morrissey being a c*** and misrepresenting what Johnny is actually doing while trying to make his own little tour sound exciting is just how he operates and then wonders why people want nothing to do with him.
Also, maybe he should not be speaking for Johnny and what was offered and whether Johnny responded or not. No response is a response.

Judge John Weeks described the lead singer, Stephen Morrissey, as "devious, truculent and unreliable"

Morrissey has proven the judge was right time and time again.

Yes it will.
It's the only way it'll go away.
Why does it need to go away? Johnny can just say no or not respond, he does not want to do this, obviously.

"Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.

This was over the top, not the info on the reunion offer.
Typical Central language "largeley sold out" and reducing Johnny to a support or special guest act.
He gets along with people and is well respected by many musicians, Morrissey.

I've already written about it elsewhere. Imagine your best friend from ninth grade. You go your separate ways and at 60 they try to get you to get back together, but you have nothing in common with him except the past. But that's not enough for some people.

We'll see. Maybe they'll both get bored and run out of ideas for clever responses. The happy buzz going around is infectious - bet every bass player who knows Johnny will be dusting down their Smiths collection, willing the bat phone to ring.

Brian's lovely as well.

Back to the topic at hand:
I think Morrissey knows (perhaps better than Marr) that the Smiths were lightning in a bottle. He understands the legacy. Hence as another poster put well, the "art is young" part of the post and the picture of them together. That wasn't a poison pen post, imo. It was truthful, and wistful, and (for Morrissey) enormously restrained.

Morrissey issues statement on 'lucrative' offer to reform The Smiths

I wonder how the MEN could have picked up this story so quickly? Hmm.

Yes it will.
It's the only way it'll go away.

There is another way it goes away, unfortunately, as we saw with the departure of Andy.
