In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025.
Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.

Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.
Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.

It says a lot for him not having a record company and not being able to release a record for half a decade, and these tours he's so proud of selling out being no bigger than 2,500, and the fact he has and always will be a bread head.
since when did half a decade equal 4 years and 5 months, dog was released on march 20 2020,get it right.

Even though I’d pay silly money to see them together it makes me rather sad that “a lucrative offer” is what convinced Morrissey to say yes. And then even write about it. Not Johnny, Andy, us, or the music, but money. Something I’m sure he has enough of (ok, that’s relative).

“There's a cash register ringing and it weighs so heavy on my back”

I didn’t use the word hate. I said dislike. Johnny Marr just doesn’t like Morrissey anymore, and wants nothing to do with him. The only people who do are crazed fans, and non-entity musicians with nothing else going for them. Even Alain Whyte walked away from the shit-show Morrissey has become.
alains latest tweet about the reunion tells me if asked alain would walk right back into the shit-show if he was asked.

Seriously doubt Moz accepted. I may think he's a lot of things, but will to reform the smiths isn't one of them.

Current score:

2008 - Marr agrees to a Smiths reunion, Morrissey agrees then backs out 4 days later.
2024 - Morrissey agrees to a Smiths reunion, Marr ignores it.

That's one spoiled reunion each - maybe third time's the charm?
Keep asking folks! ;)
Where do you get the 4 days info from? Hadn’t heard that before.

It's likely Marr has known about the Oasis reunion for a while now. He will probably even support/show up on stage with them at a few of the Manchester gigs.

Moz isn't in The Loop about this sort of stuff.

So Marr may have "ignored the offer" as he already knew about the big Oasis reunion on the horizon and didn't want to be competing with that.
I don’t think Noel would do that to Morrissey. Hopefully they will pick an up and coming artist.

Always a possibility.

Maybe Noel will end up talking Johnny into it. Or maybe from a close position in the wings at the Oasis reunion, Johnny will see for himself all of the potential pitfalls.

When I saw this lineup on the UK tour last year, they weren't very good, and a definite step down from the previous lineup. Hopefully things have improved.

Nah. Sorry you’re wrong. Seen the line up at the NYC shows, it was great! Don’t know if it will be a step down with Matt back on drums though.

I think Alain was pretty clear from the outset of leaving: if the divisive tour manager was gone, he'd be back in a heartbeat. He went out of his way to say there was no issue between him and M.

Sometimes the "yes men" pave the path to "no way."
