A Song Of America 2024

Sadly true. The amount of utter (rascist) shit that's been posted the last few days is appalling and the ever so present "It's all about free speech"-thing, with implying that every tiny bit of moderation would be "censoring" is vomit inducing. Definetely not for me. But it shows the true colours of some people on here and that there really are people out there with extremely twisted mindsets. They definitely have a place here, hooray.

It's good to see people getting their history from Tom Cruise movies.
As opposed to alt-right YouTube videos and Twitter rabbit holes like you lot?

I think it's that we all know where he stands on Israel and where he stands on Islam. I don't think there's anything to worry about in that regard. I don't think it's cowardice...his opinion hasn't been directly solicited (i.e. in an interview, etc) nor has he been up on stage and had a platform to randomly speak on it. I think that if/when either of those scenarios change, he'd speak his mind and it wouldn't contradict any previous statements or sentiments expressed in song. But in the meantime, yeah, why rock the boat.
“I would do anything for my Muslim friends.”

too serious for me,im off to watch carry on up the jungle.
enjoy yourselves.

What makes you think he would suffer a serious backlash if he published two paragraphs on Morrissey Central condemning the carnage in Gaza and disowning some of the lines in Israel? Apart from maybe Tel Aviv revoking his keys to the city, or him receiving insults from some Murray-acolyte Zionists here on Morrissey-solo, I don't think he would cause much of a fuss. Unless you suppose all his Israeli friends are Noa Tishby types, then yes, that would be a problem for him.
Israel is worded with due care and attention. There would be no conflict with a condemnation of what’s going on in Gaza.

Nevertheless, having been widely told to ‘shut up’ since 2018 (arguably longer) some fans now demand for him to speak out more? What new lunacy is this?

He completely missed my point which was, maybe the assassination attempt on Hitler wasn't the worst idea. A successful attempt would have saved a lot of lives and worldwide grief.
*She misses a lot of points, I think. And I don’t think she’s at all interested in anything that concerns anti-nazi ideas. Nor are her kinsmen in this thread. For all we know, they might not even acknowledge the existence of nazism or the holocaust.

She! Not being sexist here but I have never met a pro Nazi, ardent racist woman before.

Hmm. I'd say the lines alleging the jealousy and inferiority of anti-Zionists were worded without much care or attention; he doesn't even consider the arguments and goes straight to put-downs. It's not even apologetics, it's jingoism. And "love yourself | as you should" ignores way too much awfulness from the founding to the present. If he came out with a condemnation of the Gaza atrocity, he would have to put in at least something saying he could've asked Israel to do some introspection.

Many have wanted him to stay quiet and avoid the controversies, but I am not one of those. I prefer the opinionated Morrissey (even if I don't agree with him) to these ham-fisted, block-title posts on Morrissey Central with YouTube videos that are either cryptic or just what the title says, like: "DAVID VANCE" with no nuance or context. Does he like David Vance because Vance mentioned his name, or does he like David Vance? Because meanwhile Ian Anderson gives considered praise to Morrissey's songwriting and gets nothing.

Haha… Well, I think there’s a few here on So Low.

Ultimately, Israel is a song about sexuality.

I get why Morrissey hasn't come out in support of Israel. It's probably a mixture of cowardice and being careful. Would I like to hear a statement in support of Israel? Yes. But if the man who wrote the song Bonfire of Teenagers comes out in support of the Palestinians and essentially Islam while condemning the only western style democracy that is Israel, he can go and f*** off to the ends of the earth.

Only on Moz Solo!
:ROFLMAO:
Only a true idiot would find that funny.

YAWNNNN!!! Let's get to the Vegas setlist already!
What are you looking forward to hearing? I note that this Redbone song posted on Central was initially withheld from release in the US due to its controversial subject, and several radio stations banned it. This could be the aspect Morrissey is highlighting at this time. Last year (30th June 2023) he said on Central: 'The importance of an artist can be found in the efforts to silence him'. Morrissey has complained a number of times about his music being cancelled or not given airplay because it is perceived as being controversial. As he is posting a song of this type so close to the Vegas shows, I wouldn't be surprised if his set included such songs as Notre Dame and Bonfire of Teenagers, rather than the songs on Beethoven Was Deaf whose re-release this tour was originally said to promote.
