Disclaimer: I went into the show thinking this might very well be the last time I see Morrissey live due to the sheer amount of work and money that goes into seeing a concert in Los Angeles. Im 50 years old now and have been fortunate enough to have seen most of my heroes live, including Morrissey maybe 5-6 times now, so all that goes into my thoughts.

The man sounded GREAT. I dont think Ive ever heard his voice sound so strong and sure. Maybe this was due to the small size of the theatre, but that was the first thing I thought. It was also theatre size that pulled me in, and this was probably as close as Ive ever been (row 12).

I though the band was average. They didnt blow me away and they didnt necessarily disappoint either. Somebody jumped the solo on Shoplifters (if memory serves) but that was the only glaring thing that I noticed. If I’m being completely honest here, the band is typically an afterthought for me and as long as the songs sound mostly right, I stay in my lane as far as criticism goes and dont focus on them much at all.

Energy was lackluster. I didnt really feel any strong vibes from either party - band or crowd. Sadly, it felt like going through the motions on a few levels for me. Dont know if thats me/Moz getting older, but you could def. tell when he played never material. The bit about cell phones was very telling and I feel for performers dealing with the zombie phone crowds. Hit song = a million phones up and recording. New material = no phones and blank stares. Very noticeable.

Which brings me to the setlist. Have to say I was mostly disappointed. With such a great catalog, I of course have my favorites. I know he has to push new material for a myriad of reasons, but I felt (correctly and strongly) that as time goes on, Ill probably hear less and less of the songs I would pay top dollar to hear and more and more of songs that dont drive me to concerts. That was not a top dollar setlist IMHO. I think “Far Off Places” was the highlight for me.

In closing, it pains me to say that we can never go back in time and recapture the magic and mystery of the past (even if it has been mostly created in our imagination.) Morrissey is probably damned if he does and damned if he doesnt at this point, so who am I to judge the man for what is his life/art? Im just glad I got to see him as many times as I have and that his legend lives on.

All in all, I still think it was probably my last Morrissey show. But dont worry, I picked up a pair of those sweet signed vinyls to cherish all the rest of my days!

This was my takeaway: "I don't think Ive ever heard his voice sound so strong and sure. “ Me too.

Nice to see an honest view of you thoughts. I think with artists like Morrissey and others from that era you have to be open minded about what to expect. I go to see loads of bands every year and with bands like Buzzcocks, Bunnymen, Stranglers I just enjoy seeing them delivering their back catalogue with the passion they had back in the day with a few new songs that make you think, yep they've still got it but it's never going to set the charts on fire as time moves on. Next time Morrissey tours the UK I will go to see him as I always do but I don't get blown away by any new stuff he plays nowadays.

Would be nice if Alain were to play these songs with his own band. That way we can still hear them.

I’d rate Boz at least as highly as Alain actually.
it would be a bit of a cop out if they sang the vocal which M wrote that is if they removed the songs through spite or mean sprit, would they even be allowed to use the lyrics.

It is odd to me that he's playing so much from BOT as though it's a promo tour - but apparently, it isn't. Yeah, if the rumors are true this was intended to be a BOT promo tour. But if it isn't a promo tour then why play a setlist like it is (even if that was the original intention)? The Vegas shows in July were not BOT heavy so he easily could've pivoted.

Would you go and see Alain if he played locally to you Gordy?
yes because he is very talented and i like watching people who have spent their lives getting better at what they do,something i never did.

Yes, that’s an interesting question. I don’t think Alain will play these songs (anymore). It would, indeed, be very strange.

Maybe because BOT will be released soon(ish).

Nice one, I would as well, love his version of Nothing Lasts Forever as well as the Morrissey stuff he was involved with.

Maybe he will announce something on New Years Eve?
No. He won’t. When will this stop? BoT and whatever Without Music… has become will not see the light of day anytime soon, if ever. No one wants to release them.

Is there a single person in attendance that wants to hear Fatty? And the loop and ripper have been played to death. Enough already.

I attended the show and the band sounded great, Morrissey sounded great and was very chatty and clearly enjoying himself. Band sounded spot on to me. The crowd was energized and the energy was electric. Sure he's playing newer songs that may not have the awareness or fanfare from years past, but that's his prerogative and it's material he wrote and wants to play. He could sing any songs from his catalogue and people would could complain he didn't play this or that. Sure some setlists are better than others, but oh well, the man is still playing at 65 and sounds the best he's ever sounded. I'm grateful he's still playing and in my opinion at "top form." The whole vibe of a Morrissey concert is so different from any other artist, it's hard to explain. And for this who love him, or those who loathe him, "truly we're going to miss him when he's gone" Those going to the New Years gig, enjoy and have a blast, I know Morrissey will be having fun, he loves to perform, let's keep catching him live while we can :)
