Opening with Fatty… A love letter to Americans.

The UK has changed since Morrissey's youth, and in many places a great deal has changed. There's an argument about whether that change has been mostly positive or negative, and I think Morrissey would say the latter because the identity of the UK has changed. He has talked about other countries in Europe still maintaining their identity whilst having a noticeable immigrant population. I think it would be fair to say the US is still very much distinctively American no matter where you go.

It's very easy to say that as an outsider, of course, as someone who hasn't grown up in the US. Regarding your point about Morrissey's view on immigration in the UK vs USA; I think it is very much that; that UK society and communities have had to adapt, whereas immigrants are more willing to adapt when living in the US.

I'm sure there's a good explanation for this; one being that Americans have bigger personalities whereas British people are more private and reserved.
Very interesting your comments & balanced. I agree with what you say as I am Australian and even though we do not have the level of immigration that UK has and it is harder for illegal immigrants to come here with us being a such a big island, I have noticed changes in society too. The things that made Australia unique are slowly slipping away - right down to our quirky sense of humour, Aussie slang words and even the things Aussies do.

I won't blame immigration for all of this happening but it has had some impact as we have had to adapt to accommodate these different cultures too. Also we have become more Americanised due to TV shows and all the other things that have changed. Australia even does Halloween now even though that is nothing to do with Australian beliefs or culture - but many are adopting it, particualary if they are under 40. The older generations do not.

I have even noticed that Christmas is getting less and less now, few shops even put up window decorations or have displays as they do not want to risk offending those that do not celebrate it.
.
Change is always inevitable of course...........as mankind evolves but I am really sad to see the things I love about Australia slipping away so I get what Morrissey has been saying & the points you make are valid too.

What you said about UK adapting (changing) is the same here - where the US have managed to hold on to their identity and traditions. Australians are too laid back and we "go with the flow" and allow things to happen but we have lost part of ourselves in the process.

I wish I could explain it more and as eloquently as you have - but I have never thought of Morrissey as racist for one moment, just as I am not racist but I cannot help but be sad to see things that made Australia so great and unique slip away & many Aussies feel the same, but it is too late - so we all have to watch "The Castle" instead (now that is a movie that is Aussie) :ROFLMAO:

Your comments did come across as ageist and overly critical even if you did not intend for them to read that way, and you are still saying "he can improve" even in this post, right down to his shoes......................you are doubling down on the same comment.
