Not sure if this was mentioned but Moz's a capella for the night was a couple lines from this song...

Also recorded by Elvis, Dean Martin, Jim Reeves and Timi Yuro, amongst others.

The last two lines were in response to a lady shouting “I love you”

The first ‘indistinct’, he said “not that I’ve ever taken one”.

I thought that for the first “Trinity’”, he said “Tennessee”, where the previous two shows were.

Carmen, at least, spoke in Italian.
Thank you so much for the clarifications!

great show as always. the anthem is where i almost always see him these days exceptions being the echo theatre or club once also in dc and the PA show in redding which is my fav of all of them. the anthem is a beautiful venue in a really pretty newish area of dc though parking sucks as the venue is on the wharf in a pedestrian only area. never seen him have a problem with security previously and i was at the death cab/postal service and the staff is usually pretty sweet. still have all my moz peta handouts. i use them as bookmarks for my morrissey reading like james deans not dead or auto etc. i was a bit sick though so sorry to the people near me if ive made you ill as i currently still am. for those going have fun at the ny shows
You just have to know where to park. If you don’t mind walking a couple blocks, street parking on the L’Enfant Promenade is free after 6:30 p.m. I had no trouble finding a space at about 7 p.m.

I had a funny exchange with one of the ushers when I asked whether any of the second- and third-level seats were considered General Admission like they were for a seated show I saw last month. She said, “oh, you were here for Patti (Smith)?” I must have looked surprised, because she said, “Patti had a special arrangement. Usually, most of the seats are removed, like you see here tonight.” She also made an offhand comment about how she was glad that Moz actually showed up. I said that this was about the twelfth Moz show I’d had tickets for over the past 25 years, but at least 5 of them had been canceled. She nodded and said, “Oh, don’t I know it.” She’s one of us.

p.s. The Patti Smith show was phenomenal. She was backed by half of her original group (Lenny Kaye, Jay Dee Daugherty) plus her son Jackson. I never thought I’d ever have a chance to see “Gloria” live.

(encore)
Each band member returns to the stage and says a few words, most of which is in Spanish that I can't possibly translate.

Galeano: Que pasa, La Raza? Latinos en la casa, cabrones (Mexican argot)
Buckley: Hola, Distrito de Colombia. Gracias por venir, por bailar, por cantar. Y pachangar y rumbear (?)
Tobias: Hola (?) DC gracias por venir
Grey: Hola Washington DC gracias por todo y viva la paz en todo el mundo eh ("peace all over the world")
Van Der Berg: (Sorry, Italian I don't understand)

yeah thats what i did too, park on a side street next to some condos or apartments and just walked as the neighborhood is nice and usually a bunch of people are walking as well from the show or bars etc. i always pass that building with the three-story glass wall and want to stop but its hard when i take my wife anywhere as shes not super into spontaneous adventures. i think i parked near the grocery store, maybe a whole foods, but dont hold me to it. first time i went i used the gps and it took me right to the intersection at maybe the entrance of the pedestrian part which had a garage that looked like a nightmare to me and it was painful to make a u-turn at rush hour. so busy it needed a traffic cop directing cars. i had no idea that it was in a pedestrian section going in. thats neat though ive never seen it with a lot of seats before but thats interesting that they changed it. ive personally found in my experience that most of the people who work at venues are pretty nice if your not an ass and probably chose the job because they love music. the folks at the filmore in silver spring were great and held the door for me like i was royalty when i saw suede and the manics play. ive been lucky enough to only have morrissey cancel on me once before and that was in baltimore maybe at the Meierhoff, i think im spelling that right, but so it goes and so it went. i was more pissed off that the nofx/descendents show got canceled on me. that stung. he seems to usually follow through with the east coast dates for some reason and with the fam i dont travel to much so maybe thst has something to do with it. ive never had a bad time at a morrissey show

I love being compared to a dog! It doesn't offend me at all, on the contrary, I consider dogs to be much better than many "human" beings. This is a place where there are people who speak Spanish, and those who don't understand can learn or not?
Absolutely. Spanish is a beautiful language and I was just playing with you!

There are lots of complaints on Morrissey Solo about the set lists.

I assume that Morrissey’s position is he sings the songs that he wants to sing.

I imagine he feels that the moment he sings songs solely because the audience demands them he ceases to be an artist and becomes merely a performer.

That may be frustrating if it means he doesn’t sing the songs you want to hear.

But that’s Morrissey and always has been.

If you don’t like him, don’t look at him.
That's all fine and well but then he should never complain about being a niche' artist with a cult following and limited airplay.

why are security so rough on people, what do they think those fans were going to do,has he ever been injured by a stage invader, not to my knowledge, some can be over enthusiastic but not in a nasty way.they are nothing more than an organised gang.
Organized gang...Morrissey mafia?

He'll probably do just that.

Watching the clips, it seems like a pretty good show to me. But do be mindful of the fact that you're watching a functioning alcoholic. Morrissey is, and always has been, a cerebral, idiosyncratic and desperately shy individual. It's widely known that alcohol fuels his performance, his public persona, his art even.

He hasn't made a secret of this, and neither have his drinking cohort over the years. Noel Gallagher lives in awe of Morrissey's capacity for vodka, for example.

And no judgement from me, btw. His stage demeanour, his banter, his charm is hugely aided by being intoxicated every night. See the banter post above for obvious and often hilarious soundbites.

Yes it takes its toll over the years, of course. The lyrics become a little lazy, the worldview becomes a little hazy.

Truculence, controversy, self-sabotaging. Placing too much faith in a certain parasitic relative to handle PR. Clapping and shouting on planes. Falling out with integral band members. Fixating on conspiracy theories and genuinely believing that the world is against him. Writing incoherent fiction. Alcohol is a significant factor in all of this.

So at this stage in the game, it would be a huge ask to expect Morrissey to create, tour, deliver without a drink. Or to reinvent himself or write a song that doesn't have its title in the first line of the first verse. Or curate and deliver a novel setlist.

Alcoholics need continuity and routine to function. They cling to what they can do, and Morrissey still does it well - all things considered. His voice is holding up too.
Moron^^

The rats thing has been going on for a few years.

Someone in Vegas last year brought a plastic rat to try to give it to him but I don't think she was able to.

It comes from this...

Lol I had never heard him do that before! How interesting. And very appropriate for the spooky season 🎃 (...can moz even celebrate Halloween if it's also Johnny's birthday though?)

Morrissey is a major exception to the rule of concert security.

Virtually every other singer/band has a rule that absolutely no one is allowed on stage and if violence is needed to prevent that from happening then so be it.

At his concerts there are 2 sets of security people.
This first set is his 2 guys who work for him on stage. They each work one side of the stage and they protect Morrissey.

The other set is house security.
These are the people who are trained that no one gets on stage.
The requirements to get this job are that you are willing to do it. They will also make sure a handful of the people with this job are pretty big but I have seen elderly women working security.

I have met a few of Morrissey's personal security people over the years and they say the same thing. They speak with the house security team and explain that they shouldn't be overly aggressive when people try to get on stage and try not to hurt anyone. There is a line of course where they still must do their job or the show would never be able to go on.

If it feels like an organized gang it's because there are so many people in the security job that do it the same way. They use force and they enjoy it. They don't care what M's security has told them. It is their house and they will defend it however they see fit and they will tell you to your face they love it when someone tries something and they get to kick the shit out of them.

So while they aren't a gang and not all security guards are like this there are enough of them at each venue that it makes them all look bad.

I’m torn because I know what a pain in the ass it is to record full songs let alone an entire concert for me and the people next to me and behind me but with two nights in the same seat, maybe I should try to do such a thing on one of my two NYC nights? Or will others just do a better job than me as usual? What say you? Also, close up fans of Moz usually get a better reception when they’re not sticking a phone in Moz’s face so I’m leaning against it.

I’ve jumped on stage at least twice in my 40+ shows but security has gotten more aggressive and Arturo knew me by sight and was gentle. What say you to that proposition as well?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have. See you Tuesday!

In 1992 he celebrated it by having Boz do the show dressed in drag.
