were planned for 2024 worldwide release by Warner Records along with a deluxe box release of The Smiths first album in order to commemorate its 40-year anniversary, and also a new 7-inch of This Charming Man. Warner approached Morrissey and Darren Evans to assemble artwork for all four releases, all of which were rejected and halted out of hand by J Marr.

More embarrassment. Great.

It's not the artwork, I think he wants the world to believe Johnny is blocking the release of a Smiths box-set/re-release and a Smiths-reunion.

Just like in 1987 he blamed Johnny for the break-up of The Smiths, he now blames him for their not reuniting, and even blocking releases... Johnny will have to tell us his side of the story.

Looks like Johnny's just complying with Morrissey's request.

This is not a rant or an hysterical bombast. It is a polite and calmly measured request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews?

What makes you think Johnny isn’t blocking these releases?
It's too much of a coincidence that suddenly within two weeks of that awful Farage-tweet Johnny ostensibly said 'no' to a reunion and 'no' to a Smiths-box set!? Highly doubtful.

Moz is just stirring and forcing Johnny to come out and say something so that 'war of worlds' can really start. Johnny being silent is diplomatic but he will be angry, certainly if these claims will turn out to be false or only half-right, which seems obvious to me.

I take it that ignoring the reunion offer and blocking theses reissues are Johnny’s responses to Morrissey and particularly the open letter.

Morrissey is simply making it known.
But isn't this a case of another own goal? Looking at the responses to this post, absolutely no one wants to see that released with that cover! Of course JM would oppose it on the artwork alone. If getting these released were really the key to unlocking so much, why wouldn't M present the best possible artwork rather than something you might expect to find in Lidl?

Actually, according to A Man Escaped, because J.Marr vetoed these reissues, it may ruin every Morrissey fan’s chance to hear Bonfire, etc.
Lets think about it.

Which of the following is more likely to help him get Bonfire or Without Music released?.

(1) A favourable critical and commercial response to this reissue.

(2) Another tired, emailed "interview" in which he rails at record labels, "diversity" in the music industry and "free speech".

My only mistake is I’m hoping.

Getting tired of my loyalty and trying to defend him against friends telling me he’s a c***.
Oh I've let go of my sycophantic Moz love years ago. I still enjoy Moz's music and his weirdness, but it does get tiring.

Best to reserve your real loyalty for friends and family who actually care about you as well.

This is truly upsetting. The artwork is horrible but beyond that, Morrissey sounds like he is unraveling, actually spitting with rage. Over reissues? It's ridiculous.

I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes but it must be f***ing awful. There is no need for this. I've never seen Morrissey more desperate, acting more like a big angry baby in all my life. One that's screaming and rolling about on the floor to get some attention. Johnny, don't reply, don't give in to the goading. For the sake of everybody who still loves The Smiths, don't join this fight.

so marr is blocking the proceeds of the smiths rule ok from going to andy rourkes family and the joyces as well, mean sprited.
M doesnt need the money nor does marr but andy rourkes family may need a helping hand.
marrs halo is slipping, blocking a reunion, blocking a greatest hits album.hes hardly keeping the legacy alive.

you child.

Johnny, I'd like a box set of the first album, not bothered about the rest but a box set of The Smiths 40 year anniversary. yes, that's required purchasing. Johnny, you're out of order.

What is happening to our kid? He's always a diva and I normally like it, but this is silly.

Everybody seems very obsessed with blaming others for ruining the Smiths' legacy - Morrissey saying things like this, Marr and his love-Smiths-hate-Moz pack more interested in nonsense about racism - but the discord itself is what's ruining it all.

I don't want a reunion, and I'm not certain many fans do, but everybody just wants some respect back on the name of the band and of each Smith. Only the actual Smiths have ever seemed against that.

Stick to your poorly written comedy cracks Gordy, it's all you're capable of.
poorly written or not people still find them funny except for people like you,bet you havent cracked a smile since you were in the womb, even that cant be corroborated.

You are aware that Johnny started all of this?

But yes, I do agree that it is best for Johnny not te respond right now. Although if Morrissey is not telling the factual truth here, which seems likely, then it will be difficult for Johnny to keep quiet.
