were planned for 2024 worldwide release by Warner Records along with a deluxe box release of The Smiths first album in order to commemorate its 40-year anniversary, and also a new 7-inch of This Charming Man. Warner approached Morrissey and Darren Evans to assemble artwork for all four releases, all of which were rejected and halted out of hand by J Marr.

they are out in force tonight, slapping the big red button,it means nothing.
these people will cry themselves to sleep on their big pillow, sad people indeed.

It's too much of a coincidence that suddenly within two weeks of that awful Farage-tweet Johnny ostensibly said 'no' to a reunion and 'no' to a Smiths-box set!? Highly doubtful.

Agree. I do not think these two incidents just happened.

I do think Morrissey is now letting the public know of Marr’s actions. Where before we would have never known.

First M disclosing that Johnny ignored the reunion offer, which was M’s response to Johnny’s Farage post.

And now Morrissey disclosing Johnny blocking these reissues. Why? Maybe because
Johnny didn’t respond publicly to Morrissey’s
Central post about Marr ignoring the reunion offer. Who knows?

To make clear, I meant Marr’s ignoring of the reunion offer and blocking of the reissues were his private response to Morrissey in general. It’s possible Marr is still upset about the open letter.

Moz is just stirring and forcing Johnny to come out and say something so that 'war of worlds' can really start. Johnny being silent is diplomatic but he will be angry, certainly if these claims will turn out to be false or only half-right, which seems obvious to me.

Correct me if I’m misreading your above comment. Are you saying that it’s obvious to you that Marr’s blocking of these reissues and ignoring the reunion offer are false or only half- right, that it’s obvious to you that Morrissey is lying about both of Marr’s actions?

Poor Mozzer, he can't catch a break....

Trump and him actually do have something in common.

He is just trying as hard as he can to get the Smiths back for 1 more tour, who knows what might happen after that.

And sounds like no one cares, especially Marrs. Funny shit, you ask me....billions passed by, lost memories.....thanks for nothing Johnny boy. And to think some people cheer for this dude....Hell, he quit on you 1 time already , I would of never asked his ass.

Morrissey should get Boz, Alain and do a tour with just Smiths songs......F everybody else

Exactly this!

The first one ;)

so marr is blocking the proceeds of the smiths rule ok from going to andy rourkes family and the joyces as well, mean sprited.
M doesnt need the money nor does marr but andy rourkes family may need a helping hand.
marrs halo is slipping, blocking a reunion, blocking a greatest hits album.hes hardly keeping the legacy alive.
Bollocks, it's neither Johnny or Morrissey's responsibility to ensure royalties for the rhythm section in perpetuity; both had their day in court and were (eventually) compensated. The legacy needs no preservation, it's very much secured. Johnny vetoed this as it's an embarrassment.

I just remembered Morrissey saying in a promotional interview for his best solo record in 1994 something along the lines of, Marr and him getting together and going on car trips or thinking about investing in a yard together (not about music). That was 30 years ago and I found it incredibly charming.

hes a fruitcake,thats a dis-service to fruit cakes.
Most people in this thread have given honest responses to the current situation, positive or negative. They've made a bit of effort to have a discussion. You... you don't even try. You hide behind jokes because you can't engage in any intelligent way.

But isn't this a case of another own goal?
Sorry, I’m not familiar with that phrase.

Looking at the responses to this post, absolutely no one wants to see that released with that cover!

No one? really? If these reissues were going to be sold only and exclusively to guests and members on solo.com then I think you may have a point there.

Of course JM would oppose it on the artwork alone.

alone? really? If that were true, what you’re saying is, that Marr is not adult enough to work with Morrissey and suggest different artwork, since it would be a reflection of both of their work? He’s just gonna cross his arms, stamp his feet and say ‘no’ like a child, to the whole reissue instead? hmmm, maybe.

If getting these released were really the key to unlocking so much, why wouldn't M present the best possible artwork rather than something you might expect to find in Lidl?

Who says Morrissey doesn’t believe this isn’t the best artwork?

Sorry, don’t know the Lidl reference.

In a recent post on my Facebook group (regarding Marr ignoring an offer for a Smiths reunion. See Morrissey, Ringleader of the Tormentors) I opined that Johnny Marr harbors animus towards his former friend and musical partner. It would seem that the nature of this animus may be such that he is now saying 'no' to the reissue of Smiths music. Scratch someone who is intransigent and you will usually find anger. I've no idea if Marr is (still) playing the songs of the Smiths (he has a tour with James that will start very soon), but this latest news sounds like Mr. Maher is cutting off his nose (loss of potential royalties) by way of stopping this release to spite Morrissey (the 'spite his face' portion of the maxim). I admire Marr's musical talent, but the man...not so much (and less and less as events are unfolding as of late). My guess is that Morrissey's "open letter" really stung him.

dont talk garb, there is no such think as honesty on here, people are pre-conditioned with a view of liking the singer or not liking the singer, its that black and white,to think i liked one of your posts last week, need to scrub myself with a wire brush .
you might have a dictionary in front of you but i have 60 years of knowledge,i will take that every day of the week.

A lot of Marr criticism and little Morrissey content presented in a pretentious but clear manner. One could get the impression that you belong to one camp.

Lets think about it.

Which of the following is more likely to help him get Bonfire or Without Music released?.

(1) A favourable critical and commercial response to this reissue.

(2) Another tired, emailed "interview" in which he rails at record labels, "diversity" in the music industry and "free speech".

Why not a third option?

(3) Successful shows, maybe start doing more
real interviews, the last one was at least a step in the right direction.

JFC, so much negativity on here.
