were planned for 2024 worldwide release by Warner Records along with a deluxe box release of The Smiths first album in order to commemorate its 40-year anniversary, and also a new 7-inch of This Charming Man. Warner approached Morrissey and Darren Evans to assemble artwork for all four releases, all of which were rejected and halted out of hand by J Marr.

I'm old enough to remember when Smiths/Morrissey artwork was clever and interesting.

Everything in that regard (and many others) seems to have absolutely gone to shit since around 2010 onwards.

I do wonder what the Morrissey of 1985 or even 1995 would make of the Morrissey of 2024.
by 2010 the following determinative things are fully engrained in Morrissey’s life:

1: Jesse Tobias

2: Russell Brand / red pilled

3: he walks from the 2008 discussion with Marr about reuniting

No, I just meant the years they spent apart sniping at each other in public really built the public desire for the reunion as it seemed such a remote, outlandish possibility...
Ah, people want what they think they can't have, makes sense

Unlike you, I was alive and fully aware of both punk and The Smiths when both were still contemporary, so yes, I'm familiar with quite a few punk groups, and with other groups still who jumped on the "punk" bandwagon for commercial reasons.

As for Frank Turner, I can say only that he spent many years building his entire career on the "DIY ethos". Maybe pay more attention to what he's saying rather than limiting yourself - like your favourite celebrity - to "the vibe"?
I will not give any time to Frank Turder. My time is precious! I need it to correct people on here!
It might help you in your endless quest to be taken seriously on the Internet.

Lol. As if that was ever my intention.

Nah, I don’t tend to buy merchandise at shows as the quality is awful.
Is Johnny still selling his shoes? I think my husband looked at them but he already owns about 70 billion pairs of Clarks, but Johnny's shoes seemed a bit rounder and softer.

Agree. I haven’t purchased a shirt from an M show in years. Anyway, I don’t wear them or Smiths shirts anymore. I’m not a f***ing walking billboard for anyone.

I'm still waiting for Morrissey to comment on the eaten pets of springfield.
Not this nonsense.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he believes it. Nor would it surprise me if the Trump supporters on this fine site also believe it.

You have to keep checking as they sell really quick, I wear chukka boots a lot and his are very comfortable

Warners aren't daft. Had this come out when first suggested/wanted, it would have probably done quite well with The Killer (October '23) driving a piqued interest.
All of the anniversary stuff should get the same treatment as TQID box ('17) - which had a great build up, MP3 promos / interview promos, multi-formats, demos, B-Sides, live..., tasteful art and in keeping...
All forms of it sold well.
It would be a shame if yet another anniversary passes with not even crumbs of something new to look forward to.
But what's new?
FWD.

A Tale of Morrissian Vengeance ~

'Smiths Rule Ok' is an arcane reference to seminal counter-cultural tricksters The Goodies, and their prophetic slant on both the emergence of Punk Rock and also the travails of Morrissey's career(s):

'It is the early '60s and the Goodies are trying to make it big as pop stars. However, at every turn, their ideas are ripped off by acts who then go on to be much more successful than the Cricklewood trio - the Beatles, the Supremes and...Oasis. Now in the mid-'70s the Goodies are despondent and living on Skid Row, they decide to get their own back...'

Note the cryptic bicycle reference to Stop Me If You Think You've Read It On Central A Billion Times Before.

Ok, thanks.
Glad I asked, 'cause I figured I'd
seen that phrase around.
Kinda like Smiths Rule OK now,
'cause I always like findin' out about
these kinda references that Moz uses.
It's kinda like footnotes in a book.

The deluxe release of The Smiths
not comin' out is the saddest part.
Maybe Johnny got mad 'cause he
didn't get to remaster it.

another use of the phrase from the goodies by a musician would be the dandy warhols first album (a sixtiesish inspired band) who named their album "dandys rule ok"

Is Johnny opposed to the artwork or the release itself? If it's the artwork I get it - but it also seems like a compromise could be reached.

dont talk garb, there is no such think as honesty on here, people are pre-conditioned with a view of liking the singer or not liking the singer, its that black and white,to think i liked one of your posts last week, need to scrub myself with a wire brush .
you might have a dictionary in front of you but i have 60 years of knowledge,i will take that every day of the week.

Gordy, people on here have far more nuanced views than what you give them credit for, and far more nuanced than yours. Most posters here aren't one side or the other, because they aren't children. They criticise and praise both Morrissey and Marr in equal measure, for the most part.

You are not included in this, of course. Your posts are the opposite of nuanced. They're simplistic, boot licking, semi-literate nonsense, hidden behind your "jokes".

Besides the terrible artwork, I think the timing was bad for Johnny as he no doubt would thoroughly review any Smiths recordings. His book Marr's Guitars came out in October of last year, then he had a Best Of record in November, Orchestral shows, Spring Tour, Summer Festivals and now he's going to be touring the US. Morrissey has only done a handful of shows in that time, it's reasonable that he is impatient as he doesn't have anything else going on.

Last gig I went to I unashamedly bought two knock offs the fellas were selling outside the Ritz. £10 a pop, printed on the same type of Gildan t-shirt as the official merch and the print was just as good. Official t-shirts were £30.
