were planned for 2024 worldwide release by Warner Records along with a deluxe box release of The Smiths first album in order to commemorate its 40-year anniversary, and also a new 7-inch of This Charming Man. Warner approached Morrissey and Darren Evans to assemble artwork for all four releases, all of which were rejected and halted out of hand by J Marr.

Another compilation would be a cash grab. But a re-issue of original studio albums (and Rank)
à la Rhino High Fidelity series, or like a Vinyl, Me Please anthology series would be much, much nicer. The OG copies go for crazy money --if you can find one out in the wild, in at least VG+ condition.

The record business. Shouldn’t we agree that every release is technically a cash grab?

But I do agree a best of is a bit pointless from the point of view of longtime fans. And something more original for a release would be most desirable.

He backtracked humorously. He loved getting a little rise from his audience with that.
There was an old radio interview, late 90s, I can't remember the name off the top of my head but the host tried to be funny and said "Johnny who?" in the context of something Moz was trying to explain. And Moz didn't reply but you could hear him exhale, a warning tut-tut-tut and then silence before the guy is like "...sorry" and moves on. 😂

he might be mad at what hes seen traditionally as his role in the band, choosing the artwork, as being encroached on (fits with the idea that he feels like hes being exorcised from the smiths). like if he had told johnny or the label more precisely that he didnt like the guitar mix and wouldnt sign off on a release until it had been remixed and changed. marr might have an issue with that and get a bit miffed

Might have been a nice introduction album for new Smiths fans but Jesus that cover is so dull and uninspired. Morrissey used to have good taste.

Cash grab
1) A scheme by companies to make poorly made product just for the purpose of making money
2) Referring to an expensive but poorly made product

I think Johnny's best response would be to get a copy of this T-Shirt, and post a photo of him wearing it and giving the finger to the camera.

Exactly! sounds like putting noise on plastic, calling it a record, and selling it to the public. A scheme? A business? these are funny words.

I think we can say M was safely influenced by the punk scene.

well, he definitely wasn’t safety-pinned by the punk scene!

Anyway, I really think he saw himself as outside from it, being a Dolls fan, and feeling they never really got their due, while all these punk bands appeared soon after.

Same.

He's a bit of a drama queen, and I think he just wants Johnny's attention, me thinks.
I do think he wants Johnny's attention, I just hope it doesn't end up in a fight, a very public one.

Although that doesn't seem to have done Liam and Noel any harm in terms of hyping up the reunion!
Are they fighting already? At least the Gallaghers are witty when they fight, these other two, not so much

Is Crass the only punk band you know? There are plenty of punk bands, that had labels put out their records for them.

Good try though :thumb:

Edit: btw, that F Turner sounds like shitty Green Day! maybe Morrissey would like it. Lol.
Unlike you, I was alive and fully aware of both punk and The Smiths when both were still contemporary, so yes, I'm familiar with quite a few punk groups, and with other groups still who jumped on the "punk" bandwagon for commercial reasons.

As for Frank Turner, I can say only that he spent many years building his entire career on the "DIY ethos". Maybe pay more attention to what he's saying rather than limiting yourself - like your favourite celebrity - to "the vibe"? It might help you in your endless quest to be taken seriously on the Internet.

No, I just meant the years they spent apart sniping at each other in public really built the public desire for the reunion as it seemed such a remote, outlandish possibility....
