When was the last time Morrissey said something nice about anyone outside obitaries?

Five years ago I wrote a song called “Knockabout World” with Cliff Richard in mind. Under such terrible circumstances I think he’s done incredibly well.

Well, some people think everybody around them is a waste of space. That is indeed an opinion, but it's usually a mean opinion. And saying that to people who have not provoked you in any way is just cruel. When was the last time Morrissey said something nice about anyone outside obitaries?

“Morrissey would go on long diatribes about how silenced he was by record labels and media, complaining of lost record deals and opportunities. He would tell me he spent the years after Autobiography making an average guitar player musical director, ignoring social media, putting his nephew in charge of design and publicly complaining about every company he ever signed a deal with. I would leave him to make the connection himself”.

Two hugs would have really started the rumors rolling on solo.

Well, yes, but that was always a problem. I thought it was a brilliant curio: some of his worst lyrics set to a groovy arrangement (if he's going for unexpected niches of the 1970s, he and Whyte found a great one there). I hope the studio track is faithful to what's been played live—and that it hasn't been jettisoned altogether.

Who knows what Unreleased Album No. 2 is like at this point. I don't dislike Carmen Vandenberg as a player in his band, but based on her original material, I fear her as a potential co-writer.

If that were the way it worked then Alain and Boz would have never written any good songs. Writing for Morrissey requires you write in a certain style. Carmen's stuff for herself is going to be different.

The most surreal part of last night was after the show because of the New Year countdown, Morrissey came and hung out for a few minutes calm as a cucumber. Usually he’s half way to his hotel. In the 60+ shows I’ve attended, it was a super cool moment that seemed really rare.

Exactly - 'the theory' of an accident. What seems clear is that the area of origin of the fire was so badly damaged that finding the cause is probably now impossible. They found no evidence of arson, trespass, use of accelerants etc. But they found no evidence of any cause. All evidence of any cause was destroyed in the furnace. Any cause is now just a theory.
Morrissey seems to be more interested in the response of the authorities to such public events. And their apparent desire to 'orchestrate' the public response. We saw that with the Manchester Arena bomb. We saw that with Notre Dame. And we have seen that most recently with Southport. This 'orchestration' of public opinion, seems to me the real subject of the song. Not so much who did or didn't start the fire.

the point of the song is to promote useless banter about the fire, like in this very thread, in order to get people to “do their own research.”
