Since the NME case, though, there have been things like “everyone ultimately prefers their own race” and “the Chinese are a subspecies.” Burke would have better material to support her case. N.B.: I don’t think Morrissey is a racist, just careless with his words. What’s odd is that he’d hold Kathy Burke to a higher standard, but maybe it serves her right: wasn’t she the one in the Importance documentary who said with an evil grin that she didn’t love him enough to give up bacon?
everyone ultimately prefers their own race is ringing true now,the poles came to my town about 30 years ago to work in the ibm plant, they did not mix with anyone but themselves, theres now a lot of migrants in my town who apart from going to church or mass seem to stick to themselves, nothing wrong with that.

He was sued for libel for calling 2 activists 'paedophiles'. And he lost the case. He tried to counter sue, as the same 2 people called him 'racist', but the judge ruled that this was unlikely to cause serious harm to his reputation and dismissed the counter sue claim. A rather biased ruling.

It's because saying someone is a paedophile is something that is either true or false. It has a strict legal definition, albeit not under the name of "paedophile".

Defining racism is different, however, because, as this forum shows, we all have different views as to what counts as racism, and it comes down to a matter of belief, rather than straightforward facts. Proving or disproving whether a person is a racist or not can be difficult, especially when people, like Fox, use dogwhistles (like many on this forum). To anyone who knows how dogwhistles work, it's clear that Fox is probably a racist.

Assuming you are white, though, gordyboy, wouldn’t Poles be the same race as you? Anyway, it just isn’t true that everyone prefers their own race. Morrissey is forgetting the Western expatriates who quit the motherland to “go native” among a different race and culture they felt was superior to their own. Lafcadio Hearn is a good example.

i thought it would be great to mingle with other nationalities but it never seemed to happen.

This is enough on which to base an opinion that someone is a racist, and that would be her proof for saying that he is a racist. In a city near where I live, a woman is suing city officials and a vendor for the city for defamation and I have been following along and it's actually very messy. It's smarter to just retract and apologize and be done with it instead of going thru all the litigation, it's very expensive.

“Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can’t help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies”

Who the f*** cares what these people think, they're paid to act, not preach to us about their politics. I wonder what they think about their cherished Labour now that Starmer's gone all Dr Evil on the oldies. Silence do you hear that.....

KB came across as common as muck on The Importance of Being Morrissey. Her uneducated and base comments were cringeworthy cackles from a recently decapitated chicken's head.

Oh man...she's GORGEOUS!!! :D I know, I know...I'm not supposed to objectify women...

She takes such good care of herself too.

(Of course I'm kidding!)

... But, in his specific case, I think there's more to it than meets the eye, and quite often too. For example, when he 'ghosts' people or refrains or drops communication: speaking from experience, such behaviour is not always mere wilfulness or a power-play or acting inconsiderately or whatever. Instead, feeling utterly overwhelmed even by the prospect of a simple chat, an exchange of messages, a knock on the door, a telephone ringing (let alone by the prospect of a long tour away from the mental security of home) etc etc...these mostly everyday things can be, for the experiencer, a terrible 'blizzard' of all too many and unpredictable possible outcomes to consider; such frequently minor events of life can be distressing to the point of 'shutdowns' and a resultant turning-away from the world until one feels able to cope again (and then only temporarily).
...
This is the best description of this condition I have seen.

Everything seems to be coming to a head just now.
I still love KB - forever part of the magic of OB, just seems the fad now is for everyone to knock Moz, even though (or because) they used to love him, like an ex after a messy split. There's an anger at wrecked dreams but also surely a regret somewhere for what's lost. But in public "nahhh don't like him anymore".
I wish it would all stop. Whatever's next?

There’s nothing racist about saying that the Chinese are a subspecies for how they treat animals.
Please stop making claims that would not hold up in court. And please stop quoting out of context.
It does not reflect well on yourself.

Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda - "It must become clear to everybody in Germany, even to the last milkmaid, that Polishness is equal to subhumanity."

Morrissey - "You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies."

Surely then, you don't care about what Morrissey thinks and don't listen to his music if you don't care about what he thinks.

The first statement you quote equates being Polish with being subhuman.
Whereas Moz equated eating dogs with being subhuman.
Very different.

Libel cases are notoriously messy and expensive - as Morrissey's hero Oscar Wilde could famously or infamously attest. Not surprised at all that Sony didn't want to touch this one with a barge pole and removed the words in question. Few would, unless they have money to burn on lawyers.

Moz did make it sound like ALL Chinese people are subhuman.
He was talking about their treatment of animals. I'm sure he would be very happy to state that people in China, or anywhere else, who don't mistreat animals are not subhuman. It was nothing to do with being Chinese - that is the point.

Moz did make it sound like ALL Chinese people are subhuman.

Unequivocally - he stated "one can't help thinking the Chinese are a sub-species". It was a racist comment because it implied that the Chinese are a separate race/species and inferior to whatever race/species the rest of us belong to. Whatever the context or whatever he thought he meant by it, or whatever, perhaps, he meant to say, that's what he said, and it was an undeniably racist remark.
