Morrissey has severed all connections with Red Light Management/Pete Galli Management.

"...the landscape of the music industry has undeniably shifted, leaving traditional record labels grappling to maintain their relevance. The rise of streaming services and platforms like TikTok has significantly disrupted the old business models, pushing labels to evolve or face obsolescence. While major labels still hold substantial influence due to their extensive catalogs, their role has transformed. They are now more focused on promotion, touring, and merchandising rather than solely on music production and distribution. The future of record labels lies in their ability to adapt to the changing dynamics of the industry, prioritizing the long-term potential of artists and embracing new ways to support and promote talent. The collapse of record labels, as we once knew them, may be inevitable, but their complete disappearance is unlikely as long as they continue to innovate and find new avenues to add value in the music ecosystem."

Lots of concise overviews on various aspects of the record industry.

Okay, I’m speaking on something I don’t know much about so correct me if I’m wrong about this but if Morrissey were to self publish, does that mean he would have to put in the work of marketing / gathering the people to do the marketing and business side of things rather than the record label taking care of it for him? If so, wouldn’t that explain why he would be less inclined to do so? He’s always struggled with the business side of things.

"prioritizing the long-term potential of artists" does not happen and will never happen. It's all about self interest. The labels are part of publicly traded companies. The heads of the labels want to keep their jobs so all they care about is their quarterly profits along with their photo with the artist holding their billion streaming plaque. Indie labels are the only ones that care about long-term.

The recent decline is both artistic and professional.

Blaming Kristeen for canceling dates in 2014?
Releasing the WPINOYB singles without unique covers?
Shitting on Capitol 2 weeks after WPINOYB release in 2014?
The very low quality KMAL video in 2015?
The Supreme photo shoot nonsense in 2016?

Pepper in there 48 announcements, or announcements of announcements that never happened, and we end up where we are today.
I agree with the rest but Harvest/Capitals handling of the World Peace album was shoddy.

Moz's statement about waiting for promo ideas and proper single releases was correct, the spoken word videos were poor and the digital tracks released each week were a poor replacement for proper singles.

He did "self release" Kiss Me A Lot though in 2015 as a download did he not, so he has put something out without a label it seems. Of course, no one seemed to buy it.

My memory of the release of World Peace is that I really liked those spoken word videos, and then being shocked that a label finally called him out on his public complaining and pulled the release. I remember thinking the cover looked a bit too photoshopped as well. I'd love to hear from someone at Capitol or his management at the time about what was really going on there.

I remember being even more baffled a the KMAL "rerelease" in 2015. What even was that?

That was the precise moment when everything went caput. Clone stamp quality issue with WPINOYB cover art (quality control fell short), then the final nail in the coffin was the KMAL single, its artwork and hideous video. It was a constant downward descent since then.

As for Morrissey, he just doesn't understand that if you keep on saying things people don't like, they might stop liking you. And if they don't like you, they don't listen to you. That's not being cancelled, that's just being unpopular.

Except that's Morrissey's USP from the beginning, that he speaks his mind, for better or worse, though several times in the past when many thought he was finished, up he sprung again.

On a related note, I've been wondering if Morrissey ever did a few rounds in the boxing ring during that transformation in the 90s. Anyone know? 🥊

Let’s write a song based on current circumstances.

My Life To Wreck My Own Way

Could’ve had a record deal
Could’ve sung this song
Could’ve released Veronica
But my inner c unt’s too strong

Gave away a chance at a reunion
For all the fans to revel
Andy’s gone, we waited too long
I deserve my place in Hell

@Redacted, your turn. Add some verses or a chorus.

J Marr stole my trademark
He's a little bitch
Doesn't everyone know I invented the Smiths
He wants to tour with Brandon Flowers in my place
I just want to smash his toothy face

I am being erased
I am being erased
A cold hand touched me
I am being erased

I am being erased
I am being erased
A cold hand touched me
I am being erased

I can picture him singing that live bitchily with his eyes closed and his head zipping to the side.

Okay, thanks for the info. It's an independent label, but Manson doesn't need a major label.

“One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1” is the title.

This one just dropped today:

Good but rough ideas, that need some "production". What about a little break with a Johnny Marr-like acoustic guitar after verse 2.

Light Housework gave you the kiss of life but the war of the inner penetrates to the outside.
They know about it
And they will find me.
Oh, but a truthteller will never be silent until all the little children sing:
You Can't gagg us, you can't wreck us.
Oha, Shalalalalalalaaaaa
