Morrissey Central "'UMM, MORRISSEY JUST ISN’T DIVERSE ENOUGH FOR OUR LABEL …" (December 6, 2024)

I forgot about Johnny being signed, and agreed, it's about the bottom line, but with Morrissey it might be a bit more of is the small amount of money he will make worth all the drama that comes with him.
I just looked at the BMG site, plenty of old white men and legacy acts, he'd fit right in.
Morrissey made BMG $0 over his three albums they released. He is in the hole with them, in fact. He shit on Geoff Travis in 1983, and every other label exec who signed him, up to the head of Capitol last year.

This is why he has no deal.

Any other reasons he gives as to why he doesn’t have one is him just trying to save face publicly. Or trying to control the narrative (print the legend!) around the end of his career, as he seems to want to do with regards to the beginning of his career as well (see recent Wikipedia post). He would die if he knew the first band mentioned in his obituary was Slaughter and the Dogs.

I imagine it’s very romantic, in an Oscar Wilde type of way, for him to think the legend about the end of his career will be that his music was just too dangerous for the mainstream, and the major labels put him into some kind of artistic prison.

I, personally, would rather go out with two LP’s on Sun.

Paul Weller quit drinking in 2010. Since then, he’s released 7 albums via 3 different labels, 3 of which got to number 1. He’s the same age as Moz, and regularly speaks out against the Israeli bombing of Gaza. Gagged? No. Sober? Yes. Moz should have a look at himself

0mg dead :lbf:

but would they be showing the same passion as these shirtless boys, nahhh.

For a Madonna cover in Brazil? Maybe not. But Indonesia has a relatively thriving dark metal scene. I would bet there are shirtless boys spazzing out with the same passion for a Danzig cover, and he’s from the same generation as Morrissey.

It’s not about music or performance any more, it’s about “loyalty”, which really means “tolerating bullshit”. Which is why Jesse seems to be on stage still, while nearly all past band members have walked away from Morrissey.
Well that and the not-exactly-extensive list of other offers Jesse likely currently has in his mailbox.

He is not the only one either. There are literally dozens of his ilk here now, with the same kind of obsessive behaviour. But no one beats the original :)
I think that if you are a relatively normal person who was once a Morrissey fan, you can't help but be strongly anti-Morrissey. He has become the opposite of why most were fans of Morrissey in the first place. I am kind of enjoying his downfall. No one of any consequence takes him seriously now :).

He is still much more successful and active than most artists I love and loved but I am glad you still find him interesting enough to stick around here and complain about him every day. It sure is fun to read.

I hope you get the help you need.

Who are these artists?

In July I honestly thought that if even half of what was planned was pulled off, we were on the verge of a Quarry level comeback for a wonderful Act 4 on his career.

And after what I experienced, I’m kind of enjoying this now as well.
