Morrissey Central "'UMM, MORRISSEY JUST ISN’T DIVERSE ENOUGH FOR OUR LABEL …" (December 6, 2024)

Not sure about that, Robert Smith is a white 65 year old who had a number one album this year as did Tim Booth who is 64 years old and white.
Exactly. Some fantastic records have been released this year by middle-aged white men. The new Cure, THE THE, Fontaines DC, SACK, A Lazarus Soul (he's still young enough), Nick Cave, Pixies, Blancmange, etc etc.

Moz needs to look at his happy concert crowds, his mega bank account, and be thankful for what he has. Instead of feeling sorry for himself. Pick an indie label (e.g. the one Sack is on), release a couple of albums and get Alain back and tour and play for 2 hours with a proper support band. Burn the tired & worn video clip cheapo intro. Ditch the buzz killing songs and belt out a few new ones with a load of classics. And stop complaining about everything.

This seems like a non sequitur. Are there no middle aged white male artists signed to major record labels? If that is the case, then Morrissey isn't being "gagged" for his views, he's being snubbed for his age and complexion.
People sometimes say "middle-aged white men" when what they mean is "known sex offenders and racists". It's perfectly fair comment that known sex offenders and racists find it harder to get a record deal, on average.

He’s holding out for a deal that doesn’t exist, and he thinks he’s gonna get it by selling out Waukegan and posting TikTok’s of Thai cover bands?

That video is gonna make every record exec forget how you’ve treated every other record exec? Starting with Geoff Travis and as recently as the head of Capitol last year?

Would you sign you, Morrissey?

This isn’t about the politics people imagine he has or his music being too dangerous for the establishment. It’s about him being a dick to labels, and him not generating enough money for labels to tolerate it any longer.

Yes I agree, ive never seen mozz with boz or alain but from the music and videos ive seen theyre amazing i wish i could see them. Now on the playing for 2 hours yes thatd be amazing id love that but that just doesnt seem very mozz (i may be wrong maybe he used to) but from the smiths era videos their concerts seem to be very short (under 1.5 hours, which is similiar to mozz right now.) the tickets dont reflect a 90 minitue show. This seems to mostly be a ticketmaster fault as is most things concert price related. BUt then again off the top of my head pearl jam has massive beef with ticketmaster and have low"ish" ticket prices.

Ive said this to friends and family i love the mozz so much but hes seriously such a bum to everyone, but johnny seem to be a little narcicistic like mozz but much less out about it. Maybe morrissey just likes to be in the media

That may be true, but I don't think @gashonthenail was using the term to identify Morrissey as a sex offender or a racist. gash sees Morrissey as a righteous anti-woke rebel daring to speak truth to power on behalf of the British working class; in his view that is why the media and the record labels are avoiding him.

It’s the story he’s telling himself, and that he’s asking everyone to believe all right. Oof.
Im not sure, but last year he wrote about a bmg quote from 2020.

"
Everyone’s sick of Morrissey, including his label. The once-iconic singer has spent the last couple years torpedoing his reputation and career alike, tarnishing the legacy of his work by leaning into his most reactionary, racist takes. Now, his label BMG has decided to cut ties, and, naturally, Morrissey’s camp blames a new “diversity” initiative.

The news comes from Morrissey’s official website, which is increasingly reading like the work of a conspiracy-driven right-wing nutjob. (Seemingly innocuous as it is, they try to pump the commercial performance of his recent album I Am Not A Dog On A Chain with stats “depending on which official chart you follow,” which just feels like a hilarious disclaimer.) The post claims that BMG have appointed a new executive who “does not want another Morrissey album.”

This is from an article of stereo gum from 2020
and here is his official blog post, which he writes similar to above along with pictures showing how diverse he is.

Kinda like yours? ;)

If he was really so upset with the lack of a good record deal, then get a better band and better writing partners. You don't hang your hat on freakin' Jesse Tobias.

This is what it boils down to. He’s a niche artist, but won’t accept it. He should be on a small label that specialises in legacy artists, but he thinks he’s f***ing Beyoncé. Having never been mainstream in his life, he thinks he should be now as a pensioner.
Best thing I've read on this forum since around 1997.

I don’t think Morrissey dares, he just simply does.

Also, it’s interesting how Capitol was ready to release the album, but not in Britain. Do you wonder what the reasoning was behind that? I’m still on the fence about believing Morrissey’s claims of being silenced.
And yet …

At the show 3 weeks he said something about how free speach is criminilized in his homeland
