Morrissey Central "'UMM, MORRISSEY JUST ISN’T DIVERSE ENOUGH FOR OUR LABEL …" (December 6, 2024)

Bunnymen, Chameleons, R.E.M., Sundays, Prefab Sprout, Wild Swans, Triffids, Siouxsie, Lloyd Cole, Wedding Present, Jesus and Mary Chain, Go-Betweens, Felt, Field Mice, Saint Etienne, Aztec Camera, The Sound etc etc

Not are why you have the Bunnymen on your list, from an active perspective they've played 52 shows this year compared to Morrissey's 18.

I think that if you are a relatively normal person who was once a Morrissey fan, you can't help but be strongly anti-Morrissey. He has become the opposite of why most were fans of Morrissey in the first place. I am kind of enjoying his downfall. No one of any consequence takes him seriously now :).
You forgot to do an evil laugh at the end.

In July I honestly thought that if even half of what was planned was pulled off, we were on the verge of a Quarry level comeback for a wonderful Act 4 on his career.

And after what I experienced, I’m kind of enjoying this now as well.
Couldn’t even tell. Assuming by “I’m kind of enjoying this now as well” you mean your own droning posts

True, but they haven’t released an album of new material since 2014. And a real good album since 2005. Still love them though.

Just been browsing some other stats and my favourite band Buzzcocks did 62 shows in 24, not bad considering Steve Diggle is 69.

That's wonderful news. I sense you are finally starting to heal after you were so let down. Good for you!

Yeah but neither Bob nor Tim have the balls to call out PC culture on its myriad bullshit. Morrissey does. And he's pilloried for it.

For the record I am a huge Cure fan. Just saying.
Exactly this. And this gets to the heart of what 'diversity' actually means. In the Newspeak of the woke establishment words mean their opposite. As Morrissey put it very well - 'diversity' means 'conformity'. When a company boasts that it promotes 'diversity', what they actually mean is: virtue signal to others that you share our woke values - or else!
Is it any wonder that most keep their head down, keep their mouth shut, and play the game?

Those are some excellent bands (especially nice to see some love for The Sound), but there is no way in hell Morrissey has been more successful than REM.

‘More succesful and active’ in the past 10 years.
Since REM disbanded in 2011, not a very impressive achievement.

Yes, that’s true, The Chameleons also still tour seemingly non-stop, which is great. Yet they haven’t released much new music in the past decades.

Which is my point. Sometimes our favourite artists don’t release as much new music as we want or play as many shows, yet that doesn’t have to affect how we feel about them.

That’s true in the main although Buzzcocks released an album in September 22 and are releasing another next year.

This is what it boils down to. He’s a niche artist, but won’t accept it. He should be on a small label that specialises in legacy artists, but he thinks he’s f***ing Beyoncé. Having never been mainstream in his life, he thinks he should be now as a pensioner.
I agree with this. A perfect example is the brilliant guitar player Brian Setzer of 1980’s Stray Cats fame. For the past twenty years Setzer has had a deal with the California smaller mid size label called surfdog records. They aren’t necessarily a small Indie label but they aren’t a huge mainstream label either. All of Brian’s releases with them all have major distribution like a major label, only he seems to have the freedom to basically release anything he wants. He basically will release a new studio album then tour to promote it followed by releasing a live album from said tour. I’ve never seen an artist release as many live albums as he has. He literally has like ten live albums officially released with them. Moz should do the same. Find a smaller legacy label that still has major distribution and promotion, problem solved. He needs to realize that unfortunately mainstream radio today has zero interests in playing a new Moz single the same way you just won’t hear the latest Brian Setzer single on the radio. Times have changed and guitar based music for the most part just isn’t the primary focus of what is on the radio and in the top 40.

11 years of educatin and thats your best effort at a post on here, wasnt even funny the first time.
tell us a joke so we can see your sense of humour.
I know a woman who used to sleep naked on the French flag. One time she got her period in the middle of the night. Now she sleeps on the Japanese flag.

That’s nice. The Chameleons are also working on a new album. But in the end whether they release new music or not wouldn’t change the way I feel about them.

I hope you get the help you need.

He's a gay, arguably racist, possibly autistic, conservative and liberal. He's pretty diverse! Somehow I don't think that's the problemo.

That's a model Morrissey could totally follow. He's only limited by his openness and creativity about how to release his music. Unfortunately, it's a huge limitation because he's not open to anything but an 80s/90s record company model, and that ship seems to have sailed. Ironically, if the Smiths were just starting today... they would probably have no interest in a record deal, and would be all about crowdsourcing, self-reliance, and self-release.
