Other miscellaneous thoughts as I sit here at this spooky gas station in the middle of nowhere:

I really loved Carmen's little solo during Veronica. Overall it's such a strong song. A lot better than Telephone and Pop. I know a lot of people say Carmen's not good enough, but I think that she did a great job tonight.

Moz is a lot more confident singing I Ex Love You now, and the crowd was very receptive to it, which I was surprised by. I wasn't as into it as I was Veronica, but it's not bad. In Houston, Moz was hugging himself really tightly during it, like he was nervous, but tonight he was making a lot of cute gestures with his hands. He was way more comfortable. I said on Twitter that it reminded me of when Johnny first debuted Somewhere - his voice was really shaky, and he sounded like he wasn't really sure what he was doing. But over time he got more into the groove of it. I think that's the case here, too.

And I really dig the way Moz is trying to do something different with HSIN. It's overplayed to death, but I almost didn't recognize it when it came on. It's not as ethereal and soft as the original, it's a lot more aggressive and loud, but I can't imagine Moz could keep doing HSIN the exact same way for 40 years without losing it (more than he already has). I think Sunday is arranged a little differently, too, but I was so distracted by the overwhelming amount of tambourine shaking it was hard to tell.
Sweetie, those maracas and tambourines make photosynthesis. Like trees. He shakes them, and they create oxygen. Without them, some of us would die!

Just wanted to share what I thought was a great analysis of Madonna's Frozen song and video.

I would add that the Om symbol represents - among other things - the ultimate reality, or Brahman.

It reminds us that Brahman is part of everyone and everything, by way of Atman.

In short, it speaks of spiritual unity and oneness.

The fact that the symbol appears in the video at the same time as oriental melody - is to me - Madonna's recognition of that.

It occurred to me that the Mmmmm-Mmmmm sound she is singing during the song is likely derived from the meditative mantra Aum, referred to as the sound of the universe.

She is also clearly seen forming her fingers into certain positions during the video, which is related to Sa Ta Na Ma Meditation.

Touching her index finger to her thumb, she is creating an O - symbolising the circle of birth, life, death and rebirth. Chanting would usually accompany this - Sa Ta Na Ma (Sa meaning birth, Ta meaning life, Na meaning death, Ma meaning rebirth)

Of all the Madonna songs/videos Morrissey could have selected, he chooses this one.... I'm intrigued... to say the least.

Thanks for all the updates. Great insight.

The chatter from Moz sounds at times, well, very psychedelic shall we say.

Interesting indeed, who knows what shifting gears might have occurred between shows.

Some lyrics that struck me from Madonna's Frozen that I'll deposit here.

You're so consumed with how much you get
You waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken
When your heart's not open

Love is a bird, she needs to fly
Let all the hurt inside of you die
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

You only see what your eyes want to see
How can life be what you want it to be
You're frozen
When your heart's not open

Some extremely interesting and fundamental ruminations in this song, which have obviously struck a chord with M, to want to bring it forth to his shows.

Many of Morrissey's songs and melodies can be described as meditations. I would also describe Frozen as highly meditative; in the combination of words, melody and the way it is sung.

Particularly interesting are the lines about wasting time with hate and regret - and there's actually another line in the song which says there's no point in placing the blame....

Combined with the other scattered reflections on life and mortality, it feels quite perturbing - but also intensely cathartic.

What is beautiful, is how much he is embracing these live opportunities to sing and to live in the moment, in the now. In spite of whatever else might have gone before, or whatever will come after. He does appear to be living those moments completely.

And that is just wonderful.
Really enjoyed reading your post, Alchemist.

Really enjoyed reading your post, Alchemist.

Nice of you to take the time to say so - appreciated. We all have a contribution of sorts to make in our own different ways, and it's great to get the various viewpoints.

Hope you are enjoying following all of the live tour updates and the clips that we get from them. One of the brilliant things about the internet is that it almost immediately allows us an insight into what a gig was like.

Thank you for everything you have shared.

"The Spivs Close In" appears correct on the drum head.
I can only find one usage of this phrase used in relation to the film Holiday Camp (1947) - which features a very young Diana Dors as a dancer.
It would be beyond obscure if this was the reference, but that film certainly fits Morrissey's tastes.
(not forgetting the band or WW2 petty crooks).
FWD.

I wondered is it from Brighton Rock or one of those 'spiv cycle' movies from the late 40s? But it could well be from Holiday Camp. Often seen as an early precursor for the Carry On movies.

closing with with Please, please, please is an interesting choice.

luv these …

Jack the Ripper was intense last night! The fog was super heavy and the red lighting made it just crazy! I think it made it easier for fans to rush the stage.
