Yeah, I heard about that.

Though, in some Instagram(?) posts recently promoting his guitar book, Johnny has actually mentioned his name.

I think it's unlikely that at least one of the other guests won't try and get a cheap laugh by referencing Morrissey at some point. It's as inevitable as Paul McCartney turning up for something and someone always bringing up John Lennon.

He did that more than once. But the most sincere reaction seems to be from this bit. You can see that he stumbles at this topic and is also kinda disappointed (?) that M attacked him publicly, when he could have told him that in private (28:40, but beginning to talk about him at 27:20 )



I think he will always talk about Morrissey in the future when asked in context with the Smiths, because that's their story and it would be very awkward if he had to leave him out of it (which, totally in contrast to his fear to be written out of the Smiths, Morrissey kinda demanded in the open letter). But I think there is much much more to their story and the real reason this letter was written, but this part I think we will never ever get to know, which is fine. I just don't think, Morrissey really wanted Johnny to never talk about him again.

It's always a buzz hearing Johnny say how their songs came together. Be great if one day M could be there too nodding along. Of course being a guitar run-down it may be a bit pointless and the interviewers would be unable to keep focused, itching to swerve things in a different direction. The guitars and magic boxes would quickly be forgotten...

Yeah, I think that’s true. I think it was really that he saw the media using things Johnny might say and give it a negative spin. But also I speculate that he didn’t want Marr to paint him as the ‘bad guy’ in The Smiths, as example, referring to Golden Lights. Yes, and I agree that it shouldn’t have been public.

I don’t care for this interviewer, his voice and especially that he breaks Johnny’s flow. But thanks for posting this one, he’s been doing a lot of interviews, and didn’t see this one posted on solo before, I assume it must have. Going to watch the whole thing.

yep. It makes me smile every time he plays just a bit of a Smiths song. Always enjoy hearing Johnny talk about the how of the songs and the band.

I don't think Johnny and Morrissey will ever be friends or acquaintances again. It seems they tried a few times and it never worked out. Things change, people change, some people are not meant to be friends forever. I think the worst thing about this is the fans won't let it go. There is obviously some hurt and hard feelings, fans are not entitled to a reunion because it would make them feel better. Let them both move on. The Smiths were a short time in their lives when they were young, an entire lifetime has passed, let it go.

I can only speak for myself but with the passing of Andy, and the sorry situation that Moz is currently in - I really feel that we are coming to the end of the 'active' careers of all of the former Smiths. At this point, the mending of bridges between Morrissey and Marr is all that I want. I couldn't care, really, whether Bonfire ever sees the light of day. I couldn't care about Capitol Records. I've seen enough shows, read enough books, got the albums. This is the last, unfinished 'strand' of the story and to me it is as important, in its way, as the very beginning with that knock on the door in Stretford. They will go down in history together, feuds or no, and just to see an end of hostilities would put the cherry on the cake.

Yes, Moz is blind. No he can't see the good things, just the bad things, oh oh oh.
