Morrissey Central "THE WORLD IS APPARENTLY LISTENING" (December 9, 2024)

You gotta love Stephen Street. One of the biggest mistakes of Morrissey's career is that he didn't make another album with him. It was a combination that really worked. Not saying he had to keep that 'sound' going for ever. But when you strike gold in that way, it is always worth mining a bit more, before moving on.
A certain guitarist (after logging some time back in the band), suggested as much and pushed for a rekindling of that magic. It was summarily dismissed... something to do with not wanting to "go backward".
There is an obvious irony of note in light of recent news of him wanting to reform "The Smiths", of course

Personally, Street is one of, if not my favorite producers. His involvement with Moz was golden and he's worked with so many other bands I love.

True, but Mick Ronson and Steve Lillywhite really got the best out of ‘the lads’ on Your Arsenal and Vauxhall and I.
I wouldn’t have missed that for the world.

But we're not listening to the last three albums you've made because you for some reason refuse to embrace any new way to release them.

100% and AW would agree. He’s nothing but good things to say about both. I think being a fan and having never worked with Street played a big part in the suggestion.

My hunch is that having struck gold in his partnership with Marr, then immediately having lightning strike twice with Street, Morrissey must have thought that whoever he worked with it was going to produce magic, so never really valued Street as much as he should have. Tossing him aside over a petty royalty argument was utter madness.

Un autre!

In a weekly roundup by Florida-based zine, The Alternative, a couple of metal-core bands are chosen for the main plugs, along with sample audio tracks provided. Keep Reaching's cover of How Soon Is Now is the 4th song: "their noisy, lo-fi take on “How Soon Is Now?” proves Marr and Morrissey’s songwriting works in any context"
