I've seen Johnny Rotten do interviews where he just refuses to answer questions and he's walked out. Morrissey seems too cowardly to do that.

This is of course a ridiculous thing to say. Morrissey clearly thinks that no active journalist deserves an interview from him. He craves for the sycophants of yesteryear, who let him speak at length about anything and didn't ask pesky further questions when he said something controversial or contradictory. This is why he keeps going cack to the Dodwell, who is more of a personal wet nanny to him than a journalist or even someone who can hold a pen without stabbing herself in the eye.

I think the media changed more than Morrissey has. He always loved being interviewed, also on controversial subjects, but now any slight remark can turn into a major headline that overshadows the entire interview.

I do agree with your latter point. But Morrissey's words don't need to be twisted in the current landscape to cause furore. He likes to say controversial things and is often careless with what he says (although the how he says is always beautiful), so he just isn't accustomed of truly having to explain himself or what he meant. He wants just to be appreciated or even adored as someone who says outrageous things.

Morrissey is not able to do an interview ‘in the current landscape’ as it would mean biting his tongue off, not being able to say whatever he has said in the past 40 years.

It's a stunt that once again made him an object of derision. A quick buck yes, but no business sense.

It was worth it, just to see Mike Scott’s on stage frustration. I like to think that provoking that kind of reaction was intended.

Had my involvement continued, I had all sorts of suggestions for his off days on this past tour. We def could have done one in Buffalo. Doesn’t matter there wasn’t a new release. He knows what he needs to do to promote himself, he just doesn’t do any of it.

If true, that's just sad. Age gets to us all, if we're lucky to live long enough. He still has his charisma and most of his hair. He should just accept himself, just like that old eighties pop song said.
