Morrissey has severed all connections with Red Light Management/Pete Galli Management.

In week of release, Low in High School sold 25,000 and survived 3 or so weeks in top 100.
In week of release, Dog on a Chain sold 6,000 and left the top 100 immediately.
Low in High School got much worse reviews but had one of Morrissey's most successful ever airplay 'hits' in Spent the Day in Bed. Makes all the difference.
His albums sell in decent enough numbers (tens of thousands) if Radio 2 playlist the lead single. Same for most of the acts of that generation.
Those a pitiful number for someone of his “stature”

Maybe the atmosphere around the Smiths didn't help (regarding Morrissey's longstanding & current issues with having a manager...at all). Granted my only 'sources' are books about the band which I've read but it often appeared that people were frequently pushing themselves forward, either to become the Smiths' manager or even to join the band(!) For one reason or another, those people were very rarely suitable for the position they unsubtly aimed for and apparently it's not solely Morrissey who, understandably, became extremely wary of outsiders so blatantly seeking control and/or fame and fortune.
Remember Johnny saying he was stressed out before a show somewhere to have some girl (probably very nice I'm sure, but singly unqualified) bounce up saying "hey Johnny guess what? I'm your new manager!".

I think other musos naively see the chaos and see an opportunity to step in and share some glory. Blissfully underestimating the disfunction. Wasn't it Nick Kent who kept pestering him to join?

Dog came out at the worst possible time. Wasn't it literally the week we went in to full lockdown or the week before. It'd be interesting to know what promotion we could have seen.
Yeah but it made virtually no difference. I picked up my copy in the local supermarket.
Lots of albums came out then. Ones with airplay shifted the usual number of units. For the first time in his career, he lost nearly all airplay. It makes a ridiculous amount of difference and the fact that this could be an ongoing issue (particularly with Radio 2, Europe's largest station, who would always put his songs on the A list) is why he's being offered much worse deals than he's used to, and has two unreleased albums.
He still needs to apologise for the For Britain nonsense, plead absolute political naivety (which is true), and the Morrissey 'brand' becomes sufficiently detoxified for stations to play his new songs again. Currently, we have the mad situation where radio will play songs which are sung by the Smiths guitarist, but not songs which are sung by the Smiths singer.

Maybe Alain Whyte will now consider coming back? Didn’t he say after briefly returning to the live lineup that he left because the current Moz manager situation at the time was impossible to get along with?

That was the tour manager, Donnie Knutson, who I think is still on board.

That wasn't Pete Galli being referred to, though - it was Donnie Knutson who is, as far as we know, still very much embedded in Team Moz.

I think it was more that Pete Galli and Redlight severed all relationships with Morrissey as opposed to the other way around. Who would want Morrissey as a client or on their record label is beyond me.

I tell you what, when either Johnny or Morrissey dies, there will be major “fuc k, we should have done at least one show for a DVD” vibes going on in the remaining one standing’s mind.

Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only famously hated the shit out of each other, but buried the hatchet and did Misfits shows before everyone got too old.

As Morrissey once wrote, use your loaf.

If Andy Rourke dying didn't spur him into action then I doubt some bloke popping his clogs, that he worked with 40 years ago is going to fill him with much regret.

The big question now is if the tour will go ahead or not. If not the current band will also be over.
Morrissey obviously wouldn’t be so rash as to sack a manager without first digging into the detail, doing a full risk assessment, and generally getting all his ducks in a row. I anticipate the tour will proceed like clockwork.

I actually think Morrissey wrestles with regret (and a number of other things) on a daily basis.

I do believe he spends an unhealthy amount of time thinking...

So deeply, so bleakly
So bleakly all the time

About everything
(Who I am, how I am, why I am)

Despite what he projects, I think it's safe to say that Morrissey's biggest critic is actually Morrissey.

The mind can be a squalid sewer - your absolute worst enemy. No one else can come close to how destructive you can be to yourself.

And that has dire implications for your wellbeing. Believe me, I know from experience.

Totally agree. He's renowned for running a right ship and doing things by the book. Pardon the nautical nature of this post, but it'll be smooth sailing from now.

Lets look on the bright side; at least Morrissey isn't facing the fate of P. Diddy! Those fans are in for a rough ride.

This video aged very badly...

I hope A$AP Rocky isn't involved in any way (he has been known to attend 'Diddy Parties')

Maybe Morrissey might reconsider his foray into rap?

I honestly think M's handling of recent events could have been significantly influenced by something going on with Linder.

If there is something going on with Linder, it's quite obvious that would throw him off course and hugely impact his emotional wellbeing - leading him to act and react in ways he might otherwise have considered with more clarity.

It's apparent that he's putting up barriers, and there appears to be the feeling of besiegement. It could explain a lot.

Linder's Instagram remains static since May...

Can’t see him cancelling, it must cost a few quid staying in lavish hotels all the time and with the pitiful return artists get off Spotify I assume his main income is from touring nowadays.

It would seem Smiths income is now also absent.

Doesn’t he get half of the Smiths income as songwriters? Must be a few million a year at the way they are going now. Can’t see how he will spend that much on hotels ;)

But touring gets more immediate returns, yes.
