Inside information on Moz, Marr & management

“Inside every cynical person there is a disappointed idealist.” - George Carlin

That’s the way I view being a Morrissey fan. Hoping things will change but knowing they won’t.

For a few years when I was in high school, I was Morrissey obsessed and basically thought he could do no wrong. Then at a certain point I saw through that and got tired of all his drama (around 2017) and stopped listening for years; I was just over it. Lately I’ve been back because he’s just that good and he’ll always be my #1 singer/lyricist. But I view things realistically, now.

Yes, some people simply cannot understand or accept that Morrissey will never change.

Which I can understand from new fans, but older fans really should know better.

He has changed though Thewlis, in the early days he never spouted shit like he did in 2017/18.

Devious, truculent, and unreliable. If the cap fits. My guess is though people could have said that just as much about Morrissey aged 19 or 20, as Morrissey aged 65. He could have those words on his gravestone.
I mean sure, but what's understandable and somewhat excusable at 19 or 20 can look a little different at 65. To be consistently devious, truculent and unreliable is not a virtue for anyone, least of all someone who insists that he ought to be feted by major labels and lauded for the uncommon honesty and clarity in his songwriting. His tendency to gleefully sabotage the people who want to release hid music BOT, who have released his music (World Peace) have only worsened as his lyrics and vocal melodies have become more predictable, plodding, blunt, and of a warbling chortle.

Fair enough. For me it’s all about the music anyway, as we will never truly know what the person behind the artist is like anyway.

Well, I for one am comfortable stating for the record that I love Morrissey. In the same way that I would state that about a very small number of other writers and poets. I have never met the guy - other than seeing him on a stage. But I can say without a shadow of a doubt that his being on this planet has changed my life. And for that I will always be grateful. Love may be nothing more than a delusion to keep us amused. But fine. At least let our delusions be splendid ones.

I love it! Yep, Morrissey is one of the greats - whether it be literary, musically, or just simply for his collective 'art'. Irreplaceable.

Morrissey will be spoken about for years after he is gone. He is significant and strikingly so.

Solo is the best Morrissey site. It runs on pure love and hate (the only perpetuum mobile). No one can do better for any money. That's the reason why "people who are so invested in Morrissey" (e.g. me) visit this site. It's just brilliant
It is, I've been coming here for around 25 years; I've seen and read it all - there used to be a chatroom; that was a hoot I tell ya! The petty squabbles are annoying, but on the whole it's a great place for everything Moz (and he knows it).

The chatroom was great

I am in the honeymoon phase - only being a newbie from last year to M & Smiths......................there is no way I am going to tell long term fans how to think or feel about their experiences - they have a right to feel as they wish - albeit negative or positive - I can understand the disappointment of feeling let down by cancelled shows, especially if more than once & at a financial loss to them on top of the disappointment.

But I also realise M is only human and like us all, flawed at times - only I get to hide my flaws as I am not in the public eye. He seems to have worn his heart on his sleeve a fair bit and been honest about how he sees the world and that is his right too, but it comes at a cost, when others do not agree with you. It is a risk to voice an opinion of any kind in this world we are living in today when freedom of speech is not celebrated but squashed. But that is what I love about Morrissey - he stays true to himself even at that cost, even if unpopular, even if I do not always agree.

I am so grateful for the music - that will stand when all else is said and done, and it is a snapshot of the times they were written in - for me, he is up there with Dylan & Cohen - and I am soooooo happy that I played TQID album in 2024 and it started me on the journey.

Yes I agree, and as his lyric goes "you gonna miss me when I'm gone".......................
I celebrate he is still with us and hope he is for many years to come.
