Always thought Burke was massively overrated as an actor (one look, one voice, one persona). Comments like this, however, are clumsy but understandable when Morrissey went out of his way to back a far right political party. Not publicly retracting his ill-judged support for For Britain is the number one biggest mistake of his life.
I agree; that incident has done more damage because it cemented people's faint belief that he is a racist. From a PR point of view it could have been a simple "For Britain had the best policies, I believe, regarding animal rights, and that's all I care about. If I cared just as much for the human race, I wouldn't support For Britain, but I don't."

It's not about saying sorry. It's about a retraction of support for a political group.
And those songs you posted were from many years before the biggest f*** up of his entire career, one that has all but destroyed his image, removed tens of thousands of people from the fanbase, and perhaps most gallingly of all, meant that Johnny Marr has now become the face of the Smiths.

That’s all fine. He will not change and he will not be nice. Get over it or move on.

You think those songs have zero relevance now? That Morrissey just throws his past songs in the trash can? They are lasting, and they will always mean something.

People like Morrissey who wonder aloud about the state of the world are being vilified everywhere. There are bad people of every nationality. But apparently, you can not say this about certain nationalities. Freedom of speech? No way, 1984, Brave New World.

Alas, you will now see Johnny Marr's face on publicity for indie nights where once you would see Morrissey's. In the minds of the music listening masses, only Marr still represents all the good stuff about the Smiths.
You will also now hear new songs sung by Johnny Marr (the guitarist from the Smiths!) on the radio, and no longer new songs sung by Morrissey.
No-one could ever have predicted this.
It may change of course, but this has been the case for the last 5 years.

Many thousands of people have moved on, massively reducing Morrissey's commercial clout and his ability to secure a record deal and release new songs. If you're happy for him to be a nostalgia act whose recorded output is behind him, then that is indeed all fine.

if you want your idol to be moulded into a sickly sweet chris martin then solo aint the place for you.
the very people who liked him for his outspoken views decades ago are now probably middle class lefties who go to glastonbury and nod along to young artists they have never heard of.
as for me i will stick with mr morrissey esquire if you dont mind.

Morrissey is - and always will be - The Smiths.

Nothing will change that; not the passage of time, nor its frivolous 'politically incorrect' attempts to 'correct' what is ultimately an immovable and indisputable fact.

Some people will dislike that, and they will simply have to dislike it. For it will not change - and at heart they know this - despite their efforts to the contrary.

Nah, that's number two biggest mistake. Number one was wearing that f***ing badge!

Notre Dame at number three? ;-)

yesterday i watched an hour long video on youtube with james dreyfuss her co-star on gimme gimme gimme in the 90s,she has has done the same with him, totally disowned anything they did in the past.great video about how he was cancelled because graham linehan asked him to sign a petition, james thought there would be loads of celebrities signing but alas there were very few so he was cancelled.
on a sidenote he did an audio thing for dr who and everything went fine and when the product came out they erased a picture from him on the cover, very similar to how M feels with being erased from all things the smiths.
great video if you have an hour, andrew gold/heretics on youtube.
James is a funny, decent chap. Has been disowned by most of his colleagues because he dared speak his opinion and the truth. Hopefully one day in the not so distant this nonsense will be seen for what it is, bullshit.

Yeah, I link the badge to the message on Central. If anything the badge was even worse as it came a year after the Central post by which point we all hoped he'd regretted what he'd done. I'm pretty certain he does now. It was a huge relief not to hear yet more support for Farage in the recent UK election campaign.
Notre Dame is a horrible lyric but to be honest, I don't think it will do any more damage. The wider world just wasn't interested

Yes, Morrissey was of the course the voice and 98% of the aesthetic of the Smiths. Had Marr been in charge, they would have been as bland and empty as his solo songs. But Morrissey's image is being used less and less in association with the band these days and wrongly or rightly, it is Marr who now soaks up most of the goodwill that still exists for the group.

What was on is this badge? People are mad about a badge? It sounds like it must have killed some body, my goodness. 🤔

Remember, Kathy Burke (who, incidentally, I have never liked) warmly advised 'the kids' to "be woke", clearly without any understanding of the criticisms of woke culture that have been accumulating over the years. She took the tired old stance that being woke means being anti-racist (therefore not being woke means being racist). It's almost as if they're deliberately refusing to get the concept of hypocrisy, or, if one wants to go deeper, of the return of the repressed, projection, and so on.

I wonder what she thinks of the cancelling of her former co-star James Dreyfus.

the difference is the younger morrissey was viewed as being handsome, kathy burke even in her younger days would never be viewed as attractive.lets just say miss burke and a bar of soap are very rarely seen together.
Younger "handsome" Morrissey no longer exists. We live in the present so your point is moot.
