Thomas Frederick Substack Collection (July 1, 2024 -> current)

Nice compilation of information for which I will certainly not pay anything or register to read further.

I'm glad the A-Zs are proving useful.

Jason Rush, the star of the video for Playboys, had just appeared in Two of Us (1987), a BBC made for schools drama that, shock horror, portrayed homosexuality in a positive light. This was the time of Clause 28 in the UK, when 'promoting homosexuality' in the classroom was a criminal offence. The drama caused such outrage in the press at the time that the BBC decided not to show it during the day as part of their schools programming, but late at night and edited it to appear that the lead character, Phil, decides to go back to his girlfriend at the end. The unedited version, where Phil decides to stay with Matthew, played by Jason Rush, wasn't finally shown on TV until 1990. As a side note, Kathy Burke also appears in one of her earliest TV roles. Jason still works as an actor and producer in the UK.

Add: also in The Boy Racer video.
Image above: cited to be them in a winnebago near the set of Dagenham Dave, C1995 (possibly more 'happenstance' than anything left on the cutting room floor).
He shared the image in 2021 via IG, was descended upon by the usual brigade, so deleted the image / privated the acc. thereafter.

Time for me to give this song an open minded listen finally after all these decades of not realizing what a prude I was emotionally by clinging to being robotic as Linus clings to his safety blanket in Charlie Brown. Maybe I’m getting names wrong but I don’t mind right now. I’m just glad to have felt my ice between Lou Reed songs and my ears is melted enough that I can give it a shot.

For that video they should have just used footage of the Warhol stars throughout. Why is poor Holly Woodlawn replaced with some fairly bland actress shaving her legs ? I do agree with Morrissey - have never been a fan of the music video. They are tolerable - do we have a choice? - and, let's face it, much less important than they used to be in this digital age of music, but they really do detract from the music at times. And this video is no exception.
