I’ll never see him again. He canceled Minni. And he’s back in the US and isn’t bothering to make it up. He’s an artist I used to love. But he is not the man he used to be. I was there in 1986. 1991. 2005. After Ringleaders I’ve lost interest. Wants to take my wife to see him last year. I have all smithbsingles on vinyl. All Moz singles on CD up to Ringleaders. YouTube clips are good enough for me now. I won’t feed him directly any more.
Even Alain had enough.

Well, that's not the setlist I was hoping to see this morning, but it is what I was expecting to see.

I am in Boston, abt 4 hrs from NYC and I won't be going nor will anyone else I know. I expect a lot of people will be selling their tickets. Not sure of the exact setlist but people on FB who went are saying it's basically the same as usual.
He charges too much for someone who does not have an opener and Suede would be a great attraction for people, I don't know anyone who feels excited about seeing M anymore.
Do you mean Morrissey opening for Suede.

He should take a page out of other successful older artists. Aka U2. The Cult. The Cure.

Do a singles tour.
Do a classic album tour.
Do a longer concert and bring back his collaborators.

But no. He isn’t a kind soul. Bridges burned

Some here will say he is too good for that. Whatever. He is an artist. Not a god. And he is a lazy artist. Similar to Noel GallGher. Used to be amazing. Now ok. Effort matters.

That would require thought and effort. He can’t be bothered. He doesn’t care.
Touring around with mediocre session musicians, doing the same songs to the same front row every night must be a bloody miserable existence. There’s no joy in the performance (and now, more than ever, it is a performance) anymore.

Dang! I completely echo those sentiments except he lost me at World Peace, yet I still buy all his new releases *except California Son, hoping for a miracle.

Poor guy. There is nothing positive ever said by anyone about Morrissey. By all accounts his setlist is a tired dead horse, his touring band is subpar, and fans are scared he will cancel the gig at the last second. Most people don't seem to like his lead guitarist / musical director. The last time (I can remember) is Interpol opening for him and they had to apologize. Any singer that works with him either has to apologize or ask to be removed from the tracks altogether. A record company will not touch him with a 10 foot pole. He seems very tired of touring and it seems more like a chore or a burden to him. I don't know why he does it. No news of any new releases for his music on the horizon since he won't self release. He was and most likely still is a brilliant artist and truly a one of a kind, but boy has he taken an ax to his career in a very big way.

I don't get the 'lazy icon' point. He tours far more often than most, has persisted with intimate venues throughout his career inc The Smiths and remains a prolific writer. Of course there's occasional hiccups but you know what, I've followed the guy since seeing The Smiths way back and actually get it....go see U2 in Vegas churning out crap for ridiculous dollars if that's your prejudice.

Yes, World Peace was a new low. Two good songs (Istanbul & Mountjoy) and the rest was crap.

The first time I heard the song World Peace I was just flabbergasted. How on earth could any record company release that tuneless funeral march? Don’t get me started on the lyrics. Poet Laureate my ass.

It boggles the mind.

Although I've seen and heard similar set lists three times this year in the UK I consider myself fortunate to be here in Florida at the same time Moz is here and really looking forward to St.Petes. Particularly as I've got used to driving on the wrong side of the road now!! I actually wish Meat and Bonfire were in the set though....
....along with Light and Disappointed.

I really just hoped for a new track.

Good on Moz for getting back on stage after whatever happened with the dengue.

I worry that he might be tempted to retire after all the bad business of recent years. He’s still here and respect him for that.

Whatever needs to be done to get those new albums out, do it and we’ll be forever grateful.

Surely the question at this point is: who does he think he's creating these setlists (or, more accurately, this setlist) for? Three options, really:

1. Himself
2. Dedicated, possibly unwell, fans like ourselves?
3. More casual indie/alternative music fans who fancy a night out with a bit of nostalgia?

I can't believe the answer is #1, unless he actively likes boring himself to death.
#2 seems unlikely, even though it pisses people off that he doesn't do this and seems like such a waste for people who want to attend multiple shows.
So I guess the answer is #3? Which, from a financial standpoint, probably makes the most sense? And for that more casual crowd, I guess 10-12 of these 19 songs would be familiar, which isn't a bad hit rate?
The only flaw in this theory is that he doesn’t really have the clout to attract the casual crowd anymore. These are small venues and if you look at the NY gigs, the Sat and Sunday shows sold fairly well but…with the exception of seats at the very front…the other two shows really haven’t moved.
A setlist that considers the diehards who have grown tired of the same thoughtless songs as well as casual fans and the devout who would pay to hear Moz recite The Cat in the Hat would be easy to craft and would solve this issue.

It's a strong set list and I personally don't expect Morrissey to completely shake things up.

There is a good mix of Smiths and solo stuff, and roughly half of the songs could be considered classics.
You do understand that most of his fans are regulars and don't want to hear the same songs repeatedly every time they pay their hard earned dosh to see him live?

He has plenty of deep cuts and classics to choose from, but as he has always done, he loves to kneecap his own career.
