I think you are a new fan? I don't think you understand that song. In any event, many people have long pointed out his obsession with charts as irritating and juvenile, and mostly contradictory. He wants to be ensconced in the very system he villifies, it's honestly a bore and has been for a long time. Maybe ensconced is not the right word, but he definintely wants all the commercial success of all the people he constantly criticizes and desperately wants to play the game he says he despises, he just doesn't know how to do it and won't take sound advice from anyone, which is why people keep leaving him. Which is why people think he needs Alain. Which is why people are fed up with him and his drama. The original fans get it, even if they all don't agree on what exactly the problem is.

I don't think he has changed in his nature at all really. He was obsessed with charts from the beginning. It's one thing not agreeing with his behaviour/choices but your ongoing negative posts and use of hateful adjectives are a constant source of amazement to me. But I guess I'm in the wrong for engaging with them, and this back and forth is boring for all, so I won't anymore. I'm excited about these shows and the possible release of Bonfire, so I'll focus on that instead.

Oh, so clever. I am not huge fan of his solo work or his voice, but he shows up and puts on a good show, at bigger venues than your high school gymnasium, I am sure.
If I had to pick a live Marr or Morrissey show now, I would pick Marr, he has a good band and does Smiths and Electronic.

You must have had a large school gymnasium as Johnny sold out the Hammersmith Apollo only a few weeks ago along with every other date on his tour and last December he sold out 2 nights at the 5k capacity Aviva Studios in Manchester.

Same. Morrissey’s tired setlist, played badly by lacklustre musicians, does nothing for me.
Was at a Johnny Marr gig earlier this year and it was fantastic.

David Eugene Edwards: American songwriter who rose to “fame” in the 90s as the front man of 16 Horsepower, and later as the mastermind behind Wovenhand. Now makes music using his own name. Roots music, country, dark and thundering folk and electronics all make sense in the hands of DEE.

Late era (1984-2014) Scott Walker: Pitch black Avant-garde sounds mixed with gallows humor and celestial soundscapes from a once heart-throbbing crooner.

And Also the Trees: Started off as a gothic post punk outfit in the early 80s, but evolved into something completely unique. These past 20 years they’ve channeled Nick Drake, the Cure and authors Arthur Machen and Mary Shelley when concocting their deeply English and very rural goth folk. Their latest album (released early this year) is one of their best.

Bohren & der Club of Gore: Slow, gloomy and absolutely stunning German doom jazz that sounds like something you’d hear in a David Lynch film.
