Ongoing Darrin / Alain / Band / Management discussion

People who were around for the beginning of Morrissey's solo career know that Alain's presence in the band and on tour really added an extra something we had not seen in Morrissey before, Alain is really important to Morrissey's band, it's too bad Morrissey doesn't know it or doesn't care.

but as far as drumming goes, she does rock, reggaeton, Latin, dance, Arabic and other world beats.
Yes. Exactly the beats, we all want to hear on a new Morrissey album.
It's certainly nice (for Morrissey) that Brendan has stood up for him like this, but Morrissey doesn't suit an underchallenged “super drummer”. More like a bruiser from the East End with a quiff, Lonsdale tee and muscles. Sorry, unfortunately that's the way it is.

Fast forward less than ten years after Autobiography and Alain was back in the band and as a co-writer. He then left not because Moz wanted him out but because of Knutson.
Yes I think anything's possible. It's great he was back even if just for a while. Maybe again? Something may shift before the next shows/tour for M to lift the phone again.

More like Spike?

See, it's interesting that you think that. You don't have to like Shakira or her voice (I don't particularly either), but as far as drumming goes, she does rock, reggaeton, Latin, dance, Arabic and other world beats. As far as drumming goes in terms of technique, rhythms, and types of instruments played (bongos, djembe etc), not to mention all the triggers, electronics etc, that have to be fired at the right time, her gig is far more demanding of drums skills and running the stage than a simple Morrissey rock gig playing two up and two down and a couple of symbols and the odd trigger. I think if you delve into Brendan's background and work history, you might change your mind about his skill set as a drummer. But to each their own.
Me personally, I could never play music I don't like or am not passionate about. That's all. Maybe he likes that shit, I dunno.

Saw him live with the man in 99 and it was really good. More The Damned than Shakira.
I saw Spike in '99 Detroit. I thought his drumming was the weakest link. I don't know him but he seems to be a bit of a poser. Spencer Cobrin--was PERFECT for the '91-92 band, Deano was kind of sloppy, and the others were serviceable, fine.

Spencer was criticized by at least as many people as he was loved. Martin Boorer easily kicked him out of the band and replaced him with an experienced studio drummer. The fans still like his style today. I read somewhere that he couldn't play drums properly at the beginning and then made a mighty effort to improve. I have fond memories of the concert in Cologne with Spike. There was nothing negative about it and he also fit in with the other musicians.

I've been bitten over youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.....I've gone rabid over you! :D
grimly fiendish

F'ing Tobias just won't go away. Everyone else has been in and gone (and sometimes back and gone) but man, Jesse just will not leave. I guess he knows he's not going to get a better gig so he's holding on to Morrissey with a death grip. Frustrating because of all the people who should have been shown the door the most is him.

And so I guess, some would like more than one account to believe any story. Fair enough, no?
I have a hard time believing Darrin, who is a close friend of Alain’s, would lie or embellish.
