Are you actually trying to compare their solo careers? Hilarious. Ever hear a crowd chanting Marr!!?? Or seen someone rush the stage at one of his shows? His voice is non existent. Truly laughable...

Surface didn't compare them, but a comparison is fine. Johnny Marr sells a decent amount of records, which are released by a major label. He tours often, and the tours are successful. He's been a guest guitarist for many bands over the years (e.g. The Cribs), he's a revered figure in the music industry and he's made boatloads of money writing songs for movies and other groups, artists etc.

I think he'd be quite happy with his career, and I'm sure you wouldn't say no to a career like that.

If Johnny Marr could swallow his pride, he'd get together with Rick Astley and tour The Smiths songs. As sad as that might seem, at least it would actually sound good, to judge by Rick's Glastonbury performance, and it wouldn't be as sad as the depths Johnny has descended to in his solo 'career', which this latest clip testifies to. Marr is probably regretting now that he was so quick to piss on the Rick Astley/Blossoms thing.
You can't seriously think Marr would have any interest doing concerts of Smiths songs. He'll do a few Smiths songs mixed with a majority of Marr songs. He's not a Karaoke machine.

Are you delusional? In the video Johnny is a headliner at a sold out festival, playing to a crowd of 18,000 people. People love him. He plays about the same number of Smiths songs that Morrissey does, but Johnny plays the ones the audience loves to hear. And he plays a good selection of his own and Electronic songs. He's got the best of all worlds.

It's still so jarring to me to be used to these songs with Morrissey's vocals, then hear Johnny attempt it. Marr cannot sing and he certainly should not try to sing something Morrissey sings. When I saw Johnny live, I could kind of tune out his voice and just listent to the guitar and other music, it's harder on a video.

I saw him live too, when he was with The Healers. His vocals are better now. Still not lead vocalist material, but certainly a terrific composer and unique player.

I ignore the Marr hostility here. I sincerely believe that Morrissey owes a tremendous debt to Johnny, and vice versa. I think Fever Dreams is packed with wonderful songs, and all Smiths fans should respect and venerate Johnny. Stop drinking that sour grapes wine that Moz so expertly ferments. It's healthier to love them both!

Only problem is that Johnny was the sour grapes.
Moz even finally had to write him a letter about it.

Yes, at a FESTIVAL

. He's just that guy from the Smiths. A curiosity at best.

I love Supergrass. As it happens I've been listening to their old albums quite a bit lately.

In It For The Money is an excellent album if you want to get into them.

Love'em too. Their cover of Some Girls is not bad at all as cover versions go. They make it sound like a Supergrass song - making a cover version sound like your own song is I think a good test for a cover version.

The only reason anybody goes to his gigs is to hear Smiths songs played (and vocally murdered) by an ex-Smith. Same way that the only reason he gets any media coverage is by agreeing to talk about The Smiths and Morrissey.

And he may not be a Karaoke machine, but he sounds like a Karaoke singer.

Johnny certainly likes his vests! :D

Let's not forget about I Want The Heartbeat! That's a great track. In fact, his first two LPs had many highlights. When 'The Messenger' LP first came out, I was really proud of Johnny (even though his vox are kinda 'lo-fi Lou Reed'). You can tell he worked really hard.

Come on, they really didn't ..... if those songs had been done by anyone else but Marr, you'd have said they were awful

bernie is shockingly bad, would rather have bernard manning.

Going to see John Squire 'live' where he managed to make Ian Brown sound like an angel, made my wonder what the f*** i was doing with my life

He also shafted his so called 'best mate' Rourke and Joyce then 30+ years later re-invents himself as a socialist man of the people. Piffle
