It seems really weird that this song is considered controversial.
It's like Moz isn't allowed to express his feelin's on something
that he feels very passionate about and distressed by.
It's kinda scary, 'cause it seems like thought police stuff.
How exactly is Morrissey being prevented from expressing his feelings in this song on the bombing? Some concert attendees feel moved by it as a genuine expression of distress and anger, a rejection of collective nonsensical sentimentality - as do a number of concert write-ups and reviews- a lot of the people who don't like the song don't even contest the song's (or his) genuine emotion or the elements of the songwriting that seek to drive the point home.

Other folks find the song, banal, repetitive, and more than a little dismissive of (what seems to have been )a spontaneous expression by a crowd singing an established anthem of the last major commercial epoch of Britpop- a song that seems to have cross-generational appeal, a pop cultural unifier. Morrissey and others are free to find that irksome and useless band-aid on tragedy. But he's not being stopped from talking about those sentiments, singing about them, and critiquing that response.

So who are the thought police?

Surely a response to a song from Morrissey (or any other artist) can and should involve more than genuflecting and veneration. If not, then hasn't "worship" supplanted aspersions of thought policing?

Morrissey wants his ideas his feeling and his art to be taken seriously, as they should be. That involves the reality that some folks are going to find those thoughts, feelings, and art to be lacking. Some will write (sometimes poorly) about why. That's neither controversial nor oppressive; it's what being an artist entails

5 - Istanbul
London you bastards! Was just thinking the other day this is one of my favourites of the last decade, and it used to be in set lists regularly. Would've liked this at Liverpool last Tues!

I’ve just left the venue, and it was rather underwhelming, and not just because of the set list itself but its ordering as well. The whole “rats” business needs to go from “Jack the Ripper” - it ruins one of his classics, leaving everyone confused. “Speedway” is an incredible song, but not a set closer. The start of the set, in particular, was a mood killer. On the other hand, “The Loop” and “Girlfriend” were highs, but not enough to redeem everything else.

Now to trudge home in the rain…

And before I forget, when “Paris” is one of the better moments, you know things aren’t great.
What's the 'rats' thing? He didn't do Jack at Liverpool night one so this is lost on me...

The rats thing is at the end of Ripper he says "Rats, with their bulging eyes, with their red eyes, these things I give you."

Some drunk bald guy got kicked out 15 mins before Moz came on. He was bothering everyone around him, pushing into everyone, young girl next to me was scared by him. Also kept drunkenly hanging his arms around people’s neck. Gig was decent, but thought the crowd were a bit flat. Seemed like no one knew songs from BOT & WOMTWD.
I think the crowd was flat because of the barrier at front of the stage. No physical interaction with Morrissey.

... The band played really well, I really like Carmen and Brandon, they have a ball when playing and look stylish. Sexy band. The energy was great.

Yes Officer Carr you are correct.
It is not the message of Bonfire Of Teenagers that upsets people.
It is because the song is banal and repetitive.
I will not look back in anger.
I will go easy on the killer.
Thank you.

No one is preventing Morrissey from expressing his feelongs, he sings this song whenever he wants and I am not really sure why people think he is being martyred.

Please don’t pile on me but in my opinion some of you may be a little jaded. I hadn’t seen morrissey since for 5 years and I absolutely loved the set list! A mixture of some old smiths songs, new songs and a sprinkling of classics throughout. I’m feeling really happy right now ☺️ Band were good too.
They are jaded. Maybe from seeing too many (!) concerts, maybe from reading the concerts threads and watching too many live videos.

I'm glad you had a great time!! :hearteyecat:

Yes, there's always something Particular and never replicable about attending a live show.

Always happy when people get that jolt.
