Fiona Dodwell: "Misunderstanding Morrissey: Sparks and the steady drip, drip, drip of slander" (July 15, 2020)

"One wonders whether the vocal Morrissey detractors have delved much beyond the surface of NME's clickbait headlines and the lefty identity politics of formerly reputable publications like The Guardian."

The whole of the English working class is being told to put their heads down and shut up. And if they say a word it earns them a weaponised label.

Tyrannical dictators have done in the past and we all know the results.

In the long term we'll see what this "silencing" achieves. I can guarantee you one thing: it will be ugly.

Morrissey seems to be the last mouthpiece of the abandoned English working class.

Again you're imposing a fantasy on him, while ignoring almost everything he's ever said.

He's is very working-class, but he's LGBT, has immigrant parents & his intense interest in animals is niche.

I have immigrant parents - this is probably why I am extremely aware of this subject. You still can still fall in love with the country you are born in. You can still be different. My point is that on many subjects, especially mass engineered immigration from very different cultures, Moz's opinions are those of a traditional working class Labour voter.

You never back down online, right. Except for when you find yourself incapable of proving a point, resort to throwing around a few slurs and then disappear.
Put your feet up and get high. It's all a bit much for you I think.

Pacification kills my edge.

It's all a bit much for you, which is why you're the only one looking out your window in paralyzing fear and paranoia about the state of the world.

You have no edge. More delusions of grandeur. You're a friendless shut-in who posts racist shit online. It's not that interesting.

You love it. I'm still convinced you're my biggest fan.

Are you saying he bummed Spacey for a chance in Hollywood?
Yes. This guy I knew was in Spacey's theater groupe or school with Colin Ferrel. No details on who did what to who. He also said it was hardcore partying. Debauched. There was no "wishful thinking" involved. He just told me matter of factly. I always thought Spacey was ugly as sin. Closety. Ick. Sorry Colin.

If you mean Ireland - the cultures were vastly different enough to cause centuries of fighting & no amount of pretending it was all nice violence changes it.

Your point doesn't hold up when compared to the bulk of Moz's views which are either obscure or actually offensive to English working-class voters.

90’s Morrissey was definitely their peak in handsomeness for a racist, he was hot.. 😍

their peak ? I know Morrissey sang ‘I am two people’ but you shouldn’t take
it literally.

He wasn’t a racist then, and he’s not now.

Still hot though.

Have a good day sir !

I gave him a compliment, and Moz does look decent for his age, he needs to rid of that beer belly gut but with his old age, that’s doubtful..

still a racist imo, there...

if your speech is harmful you should be shut the f*** up.

I find this terrifying.

Because vast quantities of speech could be judged as harmful. Filled with lies, slander, rage.

From ordinary television commercials to Shakespeare speeches, from Marx to the Koran, from The Guardian to the Daily Express, not to mention all the anger at this forum and five million other internet fora and Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Who is going to judge what is harmful and what is not?

What is their criteria going to be ...

And what ideology will be used for that criteria?

(Or maybe better: RELIGION. Because we all have a religion, really, and I am terrified of this new Politically Correct one.)
