Fiona Dodwell: "Misunderstanding Morrissey: Sparks and the steady drip, drip, drip of slander" (July 15, 2020)

"One wonders whether the vocal Morrissey detractors have delved much beyond the surface of NME's clickbait headlines and the lefty identity politics of formerly reputable publications like The Guardian."

This kind of intolerance is fairly new and growing. Debate takes things forward - this is always how a civilised democracy has operated. Now people just want to "silence" any opinion they don't like.
The desire to silence an unwanted opinion is not new. It's why the rather useful phrase "shut the f*** up" exists, reel.

So do I despise Churchill. He wasn't only a murderer but a liar.

Moz recommended Douglas Murray's book because he agrees with it.

Face the truth - you'll understand Morrissey more for it.

You're the one avoiding the truth - mentioning a book doesn't mean he agrees with all of it, or any of it forever.

He doesn't share your opinions about black people & you have to pretend he isn't queer despite the evidence.

Liberals get hot under the collar when they hear a viewpoint they don't like.

They call you a "racist" then get personal and childish really quickly. It's very predictable. I feel they were all spoiled as children. In life you simply cannot always have things your way.

Civilised people don't petulantly say "Shut the f*** up," they debate.

Ah yes, the great civilized debater who calls people f*****s and then vanishes when she's backed into a corner?

Morrissey I'm afraid is "racist" too - as is anyone who speaks off script on the subject these days.

Morrissey has accusations & I don't think they hold up - you say things that are undeniably racist. And pretend you know he's thinking them.

It has to end - the "racist" label is completely defunct.

Intolerance.. honey it may have been alright for you and your generation to think racism is ok to have but times have clearly changed and it’s too much for y’all’s out of date mindsets to handle

Moz hates what has happened to England. It pains him deeply as it does me and many others. If you don't want to acknowledge that, it's your choice.

He is also from a background (working class) that currently has no political representation. A lot of bitterness is festering. In the long run, shutting people up and prohibiting the airing of their opinions by constantly calling them names is not a good thing. In the future it may cause a Northern Ireland Troubles type situation. It's exactly what they did to the Catholics - then they fought back and many people suffered and died in the conflict.

If and when this happens a lot of people will be saying: we should have listened to their concerns. By then of course it will be too late.

Telling people how they should and shouldn't think has never worked out well in the past. It cause big conflicts.

You want to gag people's opinions. That is dangerous - because people get so wound up that they eventually fight back. And then it's always ugly.

It's nothing to get smug about. Most of the general public despise woke, BLM, Extinction Rebellion and all these "fasionable" causes that the mass media and mass corporations love to push.

And I’m so glad you & others (that includes Moz as well) will one day ceased to exist knowing the world will keep changing for better.

That's your fantasy. It's not his issue.

Not an racist equivalent to BLM...
Wake up from your narcissistic delusion - you, me and everyone will one day cease to exist!

And I will die happily more than you’ll never know 😍

The whole of the English working class is being told to put their heads down and shut up. And if they say a word it earns them a weaponised label.

Tyrannical dictators have done in the past and we all know the results.

In the long term we'll see what this "silencing" achieves. I can guarantee you one thing: it will be ugly.

Morrissey seems to be the last mouthpiece of the abandoned English working class.
