Morrissey Central "EARL HOLLIMAN, RIP" and "This Charming Life" (November 30, 2024)

"Never once an uninteresting or a faulty presence in American film, he was one of those overlooked actors who wasn't ever taken in by Hollywood tinsel. His sandpaper voice and his natural virility are masculine traits that are ridiculed now (or only in demand when wars are invented and someone is required to lay down their life for no reason whatsoever.) He never married, and there is no record of even a girlfriend or a boyfriend … in other words … the perfect life. I dropped a note through his gate two years ago - asking if I could shake his hand. He was wise enough not to reply."
MORRISSEY

recommended viewing: HOT SPELL (1958), THE BIG COMBO (1955).

lol, I mean did Morrissey really ever record for Capitol?
I think Seymour may have meant, besides being an actor he also recorded an album for Capitol.
Cliffs Notes for newbies:

2014: Morrissey publicly shits on their promotion of World Peace mere weeks after release.

Yeah, maybe he should keep these things to himself. Though he seems to be one that wants it publicly known how artists are treated in the business. And as far as I know, yes I can imagine that Morrissey himself is not entirely free from blame in regards to that first business relationship with them.

Capitol responds by pulling the release, and it is still not streaming 10 years later.
That’s not very nice.
2022: Morrissey somehow ends up on Capitol again,

Wow, I guess they wanted more of that Morrissey charm. I guess you would say they didn’t learn their lesson the first time they worked with him. So why would they work with him a second time?

only for him to sabatoge his own LP months before it’s planned release, blame the label,
That seems to be the case. He’s an odd one, or was he simply standing up for the belief that artists should have more say in the record business.
allow fans to think he is being mistreated to the point they harass Capitol staff using airplanes.
Were the staff mowed down by gunfire? And airplanes? You mean there was more than one silly plane incident?
Morrissey’s own emails are leaked showing him to be something approaching devious, truculent and/or unreliable.
And why do you think Morrissey would be upset when he found out that Miley’s new contract & record promotion plans wouldn’t allow her to appear on IAVeronica, especially when she originally wanted to be a part of it?

Then a shift of tone, and tail between legs his album is his again.

What shift in tone? And why are you bringing Morrissey’s ‘tail’ into this?!

im sure the capitol staff were all standing at the windows of their office saying whos that bad man in the plane,i now have ptsd because a plane passed the office window, geez peace on a saturday night
He named Capitol employees! He insinuated Capitol was holding onto his LP without reason. An airplane! What was next? Vulgar behavior.

Scott had no choice but to release the emails.

The way he speculates wildly about Holliman's private life and the conclusions he draws from it, is indeed not particularly empathetic and not complimentary to his own long-time "companion" either.

oh well then YES!! i can DEFINITELY tell who moz is gonna wanna bum from a country mile!!

In the context of Moz's own words he seems to be a big fan of the actor and his movies.

EH died at 96. Therefore, I doubt Morrissey would drop a note through the gate of a 94 years old actor hoping to have the opportunity to shake his hand for his "bummability".

Erasing a partner from history because it doesn't suit his preferred narrative.... well I never. I can't take M seriously these days and I doubt the Butler is bothered or surprised at all.

Except that 'no record of even a boyfriend or girlfriend' could mean that it was the fact that Earl Holliman's relationships remained private and not in the public domain (according to M, although he got this wrong), rather than the fact that Earl didn't have a relationship at all which M deems 'the perfect life'. Obviously, he got the bit about him not marrying wrong. In other words, perhaps not such an insult to D, but a celebration of succesful privacy when famous?

Not knowing that Earl was gay shows that Morrissey isn’t the great fan he wants us to think he is. It’s all part of his carefully crafted image. “Oh look at me, I am so interesting because I like obscure black & white movie stars.” Being such a big fan but not knowing he’s gay? Hahaha. I bet my life that whole “I dropped a note” story is a lie.

What a fraud he is.

Earl Holliman never discussed his sexuality publicly and the fact that he was married was only revealed a few days ago when he died. Apparently this was the article that (inadvertently) 'outed' him and very much 'in passing'. In the section on Giant:

Nobody has mentioned it so I’ll say those pictures of Earl Holliman used by Morrissey are taken from the first episode of The Twilight Zone, ‘Where Is Everybody?’ (October 2nd, 1959). Earl Holliman was the first actor to appear on-screen in the show’s first episode :hammer:
