"I am a ghost. And as far as I know I haven't even died."

After these latest cancellations Moz is in danger of turning into a ghost like in Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.

Apparently… it’s because the band hasn’t rehearsed the songs. I wonder who’s behind this. None of the members from quarry are in the band now. And I’m sure that’s a blow to the ego of a very sensitive guitar player….
Source?

What I can't figure out is why he didn't do more to promote them, especially when they saw that ticket sales were bad. At the very least he could have done some local radio - KCRW, Jack FM and maybe KROQ (unless he burned that bridge). Some of the morning shows like he did in NY.
He thinks he can rely on Los Angeles, he can’t . He’s dead there as a big artist . He will have fans like any other artist but the whole Moz Angeles thing 10 years ago and nobody told him . Now he knows . Could be good news he may pulls his finger out and write good songs

They learned some songs that they can still do if he chooses, and they get and I assume got paid to learn rehearse the songs.

For a musician, that’s not such a bad life.
But I assume they don't get paid. I don't agree with you. They could be playing in bands that don't cancel and who actually appear on stage, instead of being associated with an artist who doesn't seem to care at all about his fans. Learning how to play Moz songs from 2004? Yah that must be the lifelong ambition of all musicians.

But why are they there then? Why did they say ‘yes’ to the job?

Johnnys doing just fine, I saw him playing to 5k people in December at one of the two sold out Manchester shows and I am seeing him at the sold out Hammersmith show later this year. I would like to see some sort of Morrissey/Marr thing to happen but with new material as well as old stuff as I’m intrigued to what they could create nowadays.
I wouldn't be intrigued. No more than I would like to see Bernard Butler rejoining Suede. That ship has sailed. Moz was doing perfectly fine on his own until he started laying on the daft statements and cancelling. He still has it in him to be great but cancelling concerts without giving a reason is not the way to reclaim the crown. He should have stuck with Alain, quietened down a bit (or bring back the humour in his putdowns to the press), turned up for the concerts HE advertised/instigated, and he'd have a record deal now. Instead of the current infernal state of disarray.

I'm pretty sure they didn't say yes to a job where a shitload of concerts are cancelled. They'll all desert him now.

It’s part of the profession. They signed up for it.

They'll all desert him now.

if so, so be it.

I mean notoriously skinflint Moz is hardly going to pay them for a concert they don't play. Back in the Kill Uncle tour he paid the boys fuk all per concert. I forget the amount but it was the low hundreds I think.

I’m going to guess that all band members with him presently are under contract. Contracts that they agreed to.

A thousand bucks a show

I don't get you. If Moz decides to be a c*** and they leave then so be it? Nobody will want to play with him apart from untalented, desperate hacks.

Do you want to coddle Moz? Shouldn’t that be a wake-up call for him?

Don't often message on threads other than shows but have been a big fan for 10+ years attending every UK tour. As it's clear from recent events this forum is scanned by someone on his team, I think it's desperately sad to cancel these shows and label it as simply 'unforseen circumstances'. I was interested in tickets and sales so had been checking to see how they'd moved this week in the hope the gigs would go ahead and I could watch the videos online. It was clear these shows were not going to sell out, I really think it would have been smarter to try to move the venues or reorganise the dates at a smaller venue. The idea of playing Quarry in full is a sound one, he should do the same Viva Hate (he obviously never even toured that at the time). I think labelling it as unforseen circumstances like Nottingham and the rest is a plan to get less publicity, and it works, many news outlets don't pick up his cancellations anymore. I love and respect the man, I just wish in these cases he tried to accommodate for the reality of what's happened and reward those who have stuck by him, if an event is scheduled and doesn't happen eventually people will stop wanting to take the risk. Playing a half empty show is a short term loss but a long term better option if the bank balance can take the hit. I hope the next shows are successful, I hope he plays lots of Quarry and it was rehearsed. Playing an album like that in full and some new songs is a good idea, it needed better execution, this is clearly a bit of a mess. I hope someone can re-evaluate on his team and come up with a plan. He sounds good, maybe taking the rest of the year off and seeing what the demand is like in 25 is the way to go. For now it's just sad that all the people excited and in US to see this miss out. Sorry to anyone waking up to this I feel for you.

even today? He must have them on a retainer also, otherwise they wouldn’t stick around. I mean they need to pay bills too.
