At times like this I keep coming back to that Grant Showbiz quote from the late 90's in I think Uncut magazine. I forget it word-for-word but it's something along the lines of ending his career Thelma and Louise style, chubby with a bottle of brandy and a significant other.

It's been the most precise summation of Morrissey that I've ever read and becomes truer and truer as time goes on. Many of you will know the quote I'm talking about.

Poor honey. Good thing this site has an open door policy so that so many people who were never going to these shows in the first place can all congregate to continue to pollute the internet ether with their contributions of abject nothingness. We’re just missing a few additional stragglers who haven’t been to a show at all in 20 or 30 years, but who are still here all days of their lives. We already have a few.

With the best will in the world, it’s actually very difficult to attend a Morrissey gig these days.

You’d have a better chance going for a pint with Lord Lucan and Richie Edwards.

Manchester's Answer To The H-Bomb
Pt2:

"I wish he'd end up a chubby with a significant other watching "Carry On" movies with a bottle of brandy in his hand," says Grant Showbiz. "But I suspect it's going to be in a lonely garage with the poison, cos that's the way he wants to go out. He wants to go over the cliff in a pink Cadillac."

In the absence of any word from the great man, the final words should go to Michael Bracewell, his friend and confidant. "I really think he'll be like the heroine in "Far From The Madding Crowd" he insists, "where she says, "I shall be up before dawn and astonish you all."

Regards,
FWD.

Yes thanks. I've just reread the entire interview. Fascinating the closest a journo has ever come to completely outing him at the time. Jake, Stipe, Pete Hogg. All laid out there.

I'm not of the opinion that artists "owe" their fans an explanation or anything else really, but in this case some accounting, some statement – with whatever corroborating detail necessary – would be better than nothing.

Some people are probably understandably beyond forgiveness and understanding. For those who are willing to stick around – and for new unconverted fans, the insurance companies, the record companies with whom Morrissey still wants to do business, some kind of explanation would be appreciated. It would demonstrate a level of seriousness and commitment.
But they do. When you take someone's money for a ticket, you enter into a contract to deliver a service, in this case a show. If you don't deliver, you should explain why you didn't.

Had he put a 30th anniversary of Vauxhall on the programme or even a 40th anniversary of Hatful of Hollow, the tickets would have been gone like hot cakes!
No , the reason they thought this would sell is it’s in LA and Quarry is his LA lp . The fact this didn’t sell is a bleak picture . He could have done Queen is dead , he would have had to cancel

There’s gotta be a Central post from M about this. It’s a bit much, to say the least.

Do you actually realize that he may have anything to do with the cancelation ?!! it might be the promoter who pulled the plug because the two tickets for the price of one offer wasn't enough to attract more people in the last ten days ?
If Morrissey at all cared about his fans he would offer a real explanation for all the cancelations. That's obvious, right?

Oh my, this has a finality about it I feel; who would ever buy another ticket now?!
And no point blaming the band, seems they were rehearsing - the Quarry stuff isn't that challenging for the likes of Gus, Jesse & Cam, all fairly pedestrian riffs to be fair - it's always M's contribution that lift those tunes, always was. Best outcome is that the L'American gigs go ahead, using the same tired set list of late, otherwise he's toast (with no beans).
Everything is challenging to Jesse.

Accurate number?

He would be accused of being a nostalgia act.
I think he wants to move on, musically.

But for a year touring, just doing early solo stuff, it would be a great idea.
Joe Jackson brought back the "Joe Jackson Band" many years ago and it was fantastic. He did (really good) shows with the old band and it was great. Then it was wrapped up and he went back to doing his own thing once again. It worked out really well.

For those in town…
