It is now five years since the last Morrissey record release. On 20 March 2020, I Am Not A Dog On A Chain was released by BMG Records, who then dropped Morrissey. The album reached number 3 in the UK, and number 18 in the USA. No single releases were issued from this album.

There were 2 videos, 3 digital 'instant grat' releases from this album and a remix 'single'.
(Besides the album, selling physical products and gigging pretty much ceased during Covid).
FWD.

The measure of any album is how much of it you're still listening to from it years down the road.

5 years on and I'm listening to none of it. OISTRC lasted the longest on my playlists.

Will Bonfire of Money or Without Re-Recording The Album Dies, be seen in the next 5 years?

Do very many people care either way?

One lyric that puzzles me:

Time places no pressure on you
But soon it explains what it means by the Funky Alfonso
There's a thread about it

Oh, the Brezhnev album. I still regularly play "Bobby, Don't You Think They Know?", "Darling, I Hug a Pillow", and "Once I Saw the River Clean" --but it is the same case with Low in High School; a few songs on rotation from time to time but never the full album in one sitting. It's been so long since we've had a no-filler-all-killer one (and so long since we've even had an actual album).

If Morrissey is such a brave rebel, who is dangerous and being canceled and silenced, wouldn't the most logical thing to do would be to release this himself? Why does he just incessantly whine about it all.the.time. Why doesn't he uncancel and unsilence himself and show the record labels what a great album ( )BOT is. Why is he allowing himself to be canceled and silenced ( ).

Five years on - and almost a year or better since he bought the masters for the follow-up from the label. Further he also owns the recordings to the follow-up's follow-up. The ball is in his court.

One of my favourite Moz albums. Secret of Music is a bit of a let down but it is fun. Such unfortunate timing as I think there was a lot of potential for this album to be promoted.

I saw him in Cologne a few days before the release, he performed Once I saw the river clean and that was a highlight. He literally closed ths shop though: no more concerts for 2 years or more. Not the best period.

I didn’t run to the record store on the day of its release. Something I egretted because the next day, all shops were closed. But there are streaming sites and I was happy to listen to the album at the time. It was a beautiful lockdown gift.
Not quite, only from March 20 until May 21

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single Morrissey product that even might count as "edgy" (if you really must) since about 1990, at the latest.

I think The Teachers Are Afraid of the Pupils is edgy for Morrissey. I certainly think that regarding songs like Forgive Someone, In Your Lap, Girl From Tel Aviv, Smiler With Knife, etc. I get bored when everything Morrissey creates sounds just like the bulk of Maladjusted or Ringleader, where songs just blend together and there's not as many standout tracks. The tracks I mentioned above certainly stand out. Morrissey, leading all the way up to today, is a great artist. I hope we get new music soon.

And keep this in mind too, whoever his players are on the record really provide a huge impact with how the songs turn out (obviously). His band for those three records (World Peace through Dog) was one of his best, and the additions who made that lineup stand-out the most were Gustavo and Matt W.

As somebody here said just a little while ago today, we are truly blessed with Morrissey. He's a true gift for many of us.

I remember a lot of positivity about it here at the time...

But..

When pressing myself to think of a song I liked, I thought - Oh! I really liked the live version of All the young people must fall in love with the quirky piano and was disappointed by the studio version... but, uh, wrong album. Probably says it all.

I was also hoping I would never have to set eyes on that album art again, but here we are
