Morrissey Central "ANNIVERSARY/SADIVERSARY" (March 11, 2025)

It is now five years since the last Morrissey record release. On 20 March 2020, I Am Not A Dog On A Chain was released by BMG Records, who then dropped Morrissey. The album reached number 3 in the UK, and number 18 in the USA. No single releases were issued from this album.

There were 2 videos, 3 digital 'instant grat' releases from this album and a remix 'single'.
(Besides the album, selling physical products and gigging pretty much ceased during Covid).
FWD.

Also the cover of The Sound of The Smiths (I think). I’d like to see him on his covers, preferably using current photos, not old ones from Getty Images. But I’m not an art critic; I’m here for the music :lbf:

Yeah, some here call it music, and strangely, some don’t. I think all his albums have something beautiful to offer depending on what one needs at the time. Anyway, great to be alive at the same time he is, when we can experience the records release and live shows. We’re blessed, if anyone cares to notice.

50% decent
50% neither here nor there

I bought my copy on the saturday before lockdown started - he wasn't helped with that at all

The secret of Music must be in his top 5 worst songs
Yet I love this song :lbf:

You seem nice but I could NOT disagree more.

I like you too, and the way you speak your opinions around here. No worries! I'm just very fond of that lineup. I was really excited about the direction the band was headed in, with the Tex-Mex touches. Morrissey's voice being better than ever, etc. Quarry through Refusal had each left me hanging a bit. I felt more satisfied with the new direction and interesting music of the Gustavo lineup. Dog/Chain is my least favorite of the three LPs, but I actually listened to it today - inspired by this thread here, and it's pretty fresh, 5 years on. I only skip two tracks. I think it's a really good album, and he sounds great.

Ha ha thanks Juan! I think the fact we got another Morrissey album at all, let alone during Covid was a miracle and then add to that the superior quality that's on the album. I still like WPINOYB and LIHS but IANADOAC is a solid return to form. I can't believe I just used that phrase. :ROFLMAO:

I was just thinking that I can't wait for a NEW Morrissey album. :D

With the exception of Once I Saw the River Clean, this album is laughably bad. The sleeve should've been the first clue. I could've created a better one with my phone. I haven't listened to this record in years.....why would I?

first thing you do when you come on here is check the book of condolence thread to see if M has popped his clogs during the night, nothing would give you more pleasure.
If the announcement of his death turns out to be just another post on that thread, I'd sign up to the site just to give it a "like".

Great album. All tracks awesome. The one lyric that puzzled me: "Everything else is in place except physical love." So, then seems far fetched that everything else would be in place.
Question: Would you play the flute for love or loot? I choose loot.

Definitely Chained and Gagged Now.
All hail victory to The British Establishment, Record Industry, FBI, Der Spiegel, Johnny Marr, BrummieBoy and my good self Benny the British Butcher.

The only thing he has to offer these is Celebrity Death Statements :rofl:

It was all a smoke and mirrors Steve

Benny-the-British-Butcher 🇬🇧🔪

His eyebrows are positively creepy in that picture. I'm still trying to understand how that cover was ever approved.

Because Darling I Hug a Pillow and Jim Jim Falls are genius..

The fling with BMG was officially over before Dog's release, so putting it out was just a contractual obligation. "Dropping it like an unwanted cabbage", Morrissey wrote about some botched single release, but it applies to Dog too. Some surprisingly great songs on the album, so it serves as as good way to end his recording career. What we've heard of Bonfire and Music hints at those albums are best left on the shelf.

Brilliant memories of this album. I had just turned 18 the week before, saw the man himself for the first time at Wembley stadium and sixth form had finished early due to you know what. It really is the soundtrack of my early adulthood.
Wembley Stadium! Lol

To be honest, I haven't listened to any of the songs for quite awhile.
For entertainment and informational purposes only, as of this writing on the YouTubeMusicApp (for the States...not sure if it's different in other regions):

well said zoom, when you look at the charts these days and music in general it could be the worst period in my lifetime, its too corporate now its all about how much money record companies can make, oasis got back for all the wrong reasons,on tv this morning 75 yrs old billy joel has cancelled his tour due to ill health, what makes them think a 76 yrs old billy joel will be in better health in a years time when the new shows will take place, what next for glasto, only thing that can save that is rick astley doing a morrissey impersonation with a smiths tribute band, shit we have had that.

One lyric that puzzles me:

Time places no pressure on you
But soon it explains what it means by the Funky Alfonso
