Vegas Setlist Predictions (2024)

He really, really needs to dust down Back to the Old House.

There's always hope. I never thought we'd see him sing anything from Kill Uncle ever again, then all of a sudden he brings back Our Frank.

You never know with old Mozza.
Our Frank was a nice novelty, but I do think it’s overstayed its welcome in the set. When I saw him in El Cajon in 2022 he sang a snippet of Sing Your Life… what a tease. Bring that one back! Especially now with Solomon who can actually play double bass

I'm interpreting "an evening of thrust and parry, with no show-tunes" as it's going to be a somewhat more raucous, high energy setlist than what we've become used to in recent years.

Equally, it could be something he wrote when tipsy, and we'll get the same songs as usual...
"40 Years of Morrissey" wasn't that at all... so I'm not expecting these shows to be what the fans want... namely replaying the Beethoven set list with maybe a few substractions/additions.

I’d see him do Well I Wonder before he did BTTOHouse. Since he once already sang a snippet of WIWonder before.

I think he said yes to doing OFrank because of Alain’s persistence and love for that song. Could have been, in some small way, M’s way of saying welcome back to Alain at the time.

it definitely was Alain who convinced him to re-introduce the song, but it stayed part of the set well after he had gone

I think he kept on doing it simply because, why waste a good image for the backdrop? ;)

Given how popular Back The Old House has become (thanks Tik Tok), it would be nice to see it played. Has it been performed at all since 1983?!

I wouldn’t mind if Sunday or HSIN were dropped in favor of, say, Playboys or There Is A Light

I know it'll never happen but I'd love to see These Things Take Time get a live solo debut.

Lots of good choices so far in this thread and hopefully we'll get a few nice surprises despite Carmen's limitations.

She’s a curious case. I thought she was absolutely ripping The Loop and Sweet and Tender hooligan. But songs like Sunday and Frank just didn’t seem right.

Compare live versions of HSIN by Alain or Boz with Carmen’s. Good or bad, she plays it differently, to say the least. It’s all subjective of course, and M may well like her very much.

And poor Carmen, bless her heart, I think she butchers HSIN. That slide part needs work!

You mean coming in with the first slide?

All of them. I’m a guitarist: rather than using a slide like the record, she uses the whammy bar, creating a harsh vibrato. But who am I to say! She’s touring the world with a famous musician and I’m not: that says much

Ah.

Yeah she’s not sliding. But the first note I thought she was bending with her finger and the tail of the phrase using the bar, no?

I thought the ‘slide’ part was alright. But the vibrato tail end of each phrase was a little too dominant, maybe that’s what you mean by ‘harsh’?

It’s not easy recreating something we’ve all heard a million times. Every member is hired to replicate these ‘classics’ yet, it’s inevitable that some are going to bring something different to it, even if that’s not their intention.

There’s been enough time to rehearse and get a different guitarist, so I guess Morrissey is satisfied with Carmen’s playing.

Hmmm, I was just watching this. And it doesn’t seem that Boz slides, he just bends the first then uses the bar for the tail end of the phrase (or always uses the bar?) the difference being he uses much less vibrato, a lighter touch, so it’s smoother, less warble.
