That’s some achievement, selling more that the top 5 combined!

Getting a #1 album is an absolute non-event these days (Shed 7 have managed to do it twice this year!) but the first week sales of around 50,000 are pretty impressive. It's been an effective campaign and the reviews have been great.
I may well buy a copy of the album and I'm not even that much of a fan.

Edit - PS outselling the top 5 isn't really that impressive though.
It happens most weeks when a moderately large act releases a new album.

Yep, I totally agree on the number 1 point but as you say those sales volumes are impressive.

Looks like a lot of people were looking forward to the new Cure album, maybe Bonfire will get a similar reaction.

It would be nice, but let's not ignore that Robert Smith did some proper promotion (interviews, a live stream, and probably more), something Morrissey seems unwilling to do. To reach a larger audience, he's going to have to do more than just talk to SER and FiDo.

True, just posted in the continued success thread about needing to show record companies that he can actually complete a tour.

The Cure‘s new album, Songs of a Lost World, has debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, giving Robert Smith and company their best start on the chart in over 30 years.

The last time The Cure was that high on the Billboard 200 was in 1992 with Wish, which peaked at #2. The “Boys Don’t Cry” outfit has one other top-10 album in their discography: 2007’s self-titled record, which reached #7.

In terms of sales numbers, Songs of a Lost World moved a total of 57,000 equivalent album units in its first week, 53,000 of which were traditional album sales. The latter figure is the largest for any Cure album since 2004.

@Ryan @Gregor Samsa

Maybe this has been covered, but didn’t know there was two versions of the album, which is pretty cool. This guy’s head over heels for the album, and chooses his favorite of the two different versions and why … though I guess it doesn’t make much of a difference if you’re not listening on a great system, or at least with good headphones.
