The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World

Full album on Youtube

In the 1 hour 40 min interview when Robert said some of the definitive versions of the songs from SOALW are the live versions, I really feel like that is the case for Endsong. Some of the live versions just pack more of an emotional punch, IMO.

i miss the days when you would have to go out and buy an album. it was always like an event: youd buy it, take it home and listen to the whole thing all the way through. now that you can just get it on youtube it seems so unceremonious that i usually just dont even bothering listening or ill listen to snippets at a time.

Meanwhile, Troxy sound check for the SOALW show… includes “Secrets”!

A Fragile Thing

wow, secrets. also M. should be an interesting show.

Well I've listened via a renowned streaming service and think this is their best since Disintegration.

Endsong- wow!

I agree as far as an album as a whole. If you already like The Cure you're going to love this album and it may win over some new fans.
I'm a fair weather fan of The Cure. Only like the songs which have fantastic melodies e.g. Caterpillar, Pictures of You, Just Like Heaven, Catch.
Not a sufficiently big fan of Smith's singing or lyrics to enjoy lesser material, so guessing I won't much like this album.

You can probably skip it then. If I felt that way going into a new album, I probably wouldn't bother. ;)

A very good album, let down a little by its middle section. But easily their best since Wish, which had more great songs but also more lesser ones.

There is a whole night of Cure related programmes on BBC2 tonight. It's a real treasure trove of televisual treats.

I appreciate your thoughts. I mentioned that I thought Songs was not as dark as I was expecting and a cross between Disintegration and Wish. At the time Wish came out... I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't Distengration Part 2 and was "poppier" if you will and found Friday, I'm in Love completely throwaway. Over time though I've come to appreciate Wish a lot more. I stopped following The Cure once Wild Mood Swings came out (but remained a fan of the earlier stuff). It's nice to rejoin with this album.
