The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World

@Ryan @Gregor Samsa

Maybe this has been covered, but didn’t know there was two versions of the album, which is pretty cool. This guy’s head over heels for the album, and chooses his favorite of the two different versions and why … though I guess it doesn’t make much of a difference if you’re not listening on a great system, or at least with good headphones.

I am so not an audiophile, which might be why I’ve missed this, but boy do I want to hear that other version!

I wish I could love the new Cure album. I mean, it's alright, but it's no Ghosteen.

Another absolutely stellar album. But don’t compare the two. Try judge it on its own merits. And read the lyrics when you’re listening!

The songs have no discernible melody. They're just a gray tangled mass of sounds. I've only listened to it twice though. I'll give it a few more chances. I mean, i don't dislike it. It's nice. It just doesn't do anything particularly for me.

Lol. I’ll remember that when you and others are criticizing Morrissey’s recent work compared to his earlier.
Okay? But Morrissey’s recent stuff is bad on its own merits.

Of course they have. Sure, It’s not pop music, but there are melodies. Just listen to A Fragile Thing, All I Ever Am or And Nothing Is Forever.

But if what you’re hearing is just a “gray tangled mass of sounds”, maybe it’s not for you.

New Cure album is poor, Ghosteen is poor (as is Cave's new album, whatever it's called), new Pixies album is poor. I'm pleased I kept my 78's.

Yes! I subscribed to your channel… good stuff! (y)

I listened to it again just now. Still meh.

Favorites are 1st) Nothing Is Forever and 2nd) I Can Never Say Goodbye. Though neither of them are The Same Deep Water As You. I sort of like drone:nodrone too. It's more poppy!!

Lyrics aren't so great.. A Fragile Things lyrics are particularly nothing special. And I don't need to read the lyrics while listening, Gregor, because I speak english!

I have to agree. I have listened 3 or 4 times and are still underwhelmed.

Odd.

I agree that TSDWAY is one of their very best songs, but I think these new songs exist in the same realm. I’ve had a 20+ year relationship with that particular song (and the album it comes from), so it’s hard for me to be entirely objective, though.

I think they’re often quite devastating in their simplicity. They’re honest and they hit home. And I, too, speak English, of course, but I still find that reading along as you listen gives the experience another dimension. Seeing the words does something.

Out of all the old-timers , the Cure seems to succeed the best, still true to form. I wouldn't consider it their best but certainly worthy album, unlike the last two. I'm glad they retained their originality, creativity and almost unchanged vocals after decades of solid work. Can't compare that kind of output with many contemporaries.

Hi, any chance of resending these as I missed them, got the album, just trying desperately to get the live ones.
FWD.
