The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World

i miss the days when you would have to go out and buy an album. it was always like an event: youd buy it, take it home and listen to the whole thing all the way through. now that you can just get it on youtube it seems so unceremonious that i usually just dont even bothering listening or ill listen to snippets at a time.
I still do exactly that with albums I’ve especially looked forward to. Like this one.

I’m a huge fan of Bloodflowers, but SOALW is a stronger album. Their best since Disintegration. I’d place at the no 4 spot on a list of their albums (behind Disintegration, Pornography and Seventeen Seconds).

A fantastic album. An emotional sledgehammer and a career highlight for a band that’s been around for nearly half a century.

I'm happy to hear it's so good. I'm gonna be doing a fast soon and it helps to have good music to listen to while fasting so I'm gonna save listening to it for then.

Sounds good! Even though you’ll probably like it right off the bat, it actually keeps growing and getting even better.

Alone, And Nothing Is Forever and of course Endsong are undoubtedly songs not inferior to the songs from Disintegration. Besides, it seems that The Cure's music is not necessarily about catchiness. A beautiful album, after a dozen or so listens, number 5 in my private ranking.

Lyrics to Bodiam Sky as printed in the booklet, the song that was originally going to end the album after Endsong that Robert took off at the last minute. Said they might re-record it for the next album:

Bodiam Sky

Always remember the two of us dreaming a world
We can dream to the end
Sun coming up in a Bodiam sky
And a promise that we’ll never change
Or forget how it is to be young and in love
At the edge and alive
Holding each other together forever and promising never to die
Or forget how it feels to be sealed with a kiss
In this dream of a world
At the edge of it all
Sun going down in a Bodiam sky
And a promise that we’ll never fall
Or forget how this world is now
Promised at the edge
Holding each other and dreaming in the end
How this world is found
In love at the edge
Young and alive and forever in the end
How this world is ours
Promised at the edge
Holding each other and dreaming
In the end
Holding each other and dreaming
In the end
Dreaming
Together
Forever

And Nothing Is Forever was written for someone (presumably Robert’s mother) who he promised he would be there with when they passed away. Unfortunately he couldn’t be there, so he said he wrote this song to make up for it in a way, and believes the person in question would like the song.

This is brilliant set of songs, mostly old classics, which was a surprise to me.
There's not one single dud or filler in the whole set.
A band at the top of their game, at their age. Just wow.
Not too fond of the two middle songs of this album.
Otherwise it really is a very good album.
Easily their best since Wish.
Do you imagine Morrissey and his band are giving these new Cure tracks a listen? As someone mentioned a while back, the album name is not unlike another title i.e. Without Music The World Dies. Perhaps he'll slag them off in jest at a show! I think they'd be delighted.

There's something comforting about this Cure coup, along with the recent James no. 1, and Oasis' big reunion, and Tears For Fears' triumphant album, and a record by Kate Bush in the works, and even Marr's touring buzz, as Morrissey holds his ground. Trans educationally posts a mix of current and older music on the songs thread, and a lot of the newer poppy stuff talks about cutting and anorexia and suicide in an everyday way. 'The little kids live in hell now' . As if it can't be different. But it used to be. The music reminds us. There is a light that never goes out. 🕯️

Well I listened to it. It's okay. You're probably right that it will grow on me. I didnt think much of bloodflowers or their self titled album the first few listens either and then I grew to love them. I hope that will happen anyway. So far, nothing really stands out about these songs to me.

I never thought an album like this could leave such a lukewarm impression on someone. I hope you don’t abandon it completely and that it in fact grows on you like Bloodflowers did.
