Scott Rodger of Maverick/Quest management took to Twitter responding to claims about BOT’s cancellation. According to Rodger what’s going on behind the scenes is legal trouble with a featured artist (must be Miley?) who was supposed to go uncredited for legal reasons. Morrissey announced their feature on his blog, which led to a delay as they have to scrub the vocals from the album and replace them.

Rodger gives a release date of February 23rd 2023 and no indication that that is off.

“Morrissey’s album was due for release in Feb 23. It will come out but Morrissey himself put out a statement in his blog that the album “featured” another artist who didn’t want to be credited and thus the artist’s label blocked the release. Nothing to do with Capitol.”

“The artist who did backing vocals will be taken off and replaced. That takes time especially as you hit Christmas. When you say fight, sadly it doesn’t work that way. The other label, Columbia, legally blocked it. They’re within their rights to do so.”

I think they had a bit of a falling out by Maladjusted, pretty sure Lillywhite wasn’t even his choice of producer by that album, or even Southpaw, seems he stuck with Lillywhite, because he couldn’t get someone else and because he was familiar, comfortable with him.

I didn’t realize that. There was an S.L. interview posted on here a month or so back where he said Morrissey remained enigmatic and unknowable in the entire time he knew him, or something to that effect. And remarked that Morrissey was vain: “he’d show up for breakfast every day with nary a hair out of place.” But he didn’t seem bothered by it, and he still rates Morrissey very highly. Maybe enough water has passed under the bridge for a reunion, but it’s still unlikely. Morrissey is fond of J.C.

According to Variety, Miley signed with Columbia in March 2021. Was 'Bonfore' already recorded and in the can by then? It might just be a case that at the time her old record company were happy for her to do it (or she was between contracts), but Columbia are no longer willing to play ball.

Alternatively, in the past couple of years, she's realised just how toxic Morrissey's brand is, and doesn't want any guilt by association.

Why work with an artist you are too scared to be credited by? That's my question. Show your allegiance and be proud of who you respect or just don't bother doing it at all.

I believe it’s actually Columbia that’s the problem, and Miley’s personal wish to not be involved isn’t true.

My take is, Columbia said.. yeah, you can use Miley on backing vocals but she will have to go uncredited. But then M Central revealed that it was indeed Miley on BoT, so Columbia
now want to be compensated, but Capitol couldn’t come to a agreement, and so another reason for the delay.

But on top of this, Morrissey seems to have walked away. And now we’re left in the dark, again.

Ahh, okay. Thank you for helping clear that up. It makes more sense that way.

It's difficult to watch someone you adore perpetually hitting the self destruct button, but that's also partly what we love about him. Flaws and all.

It's amusing to me that he thought Christmas would be the most apt time to release this pertinent information. I just hope he's okay; you never can tell.

If that's legit, which it seems to be it is really a stupid move on Ms part. I mean then clearly his team or he himself caused the problem themselves. He just could have said:"Whoopsie, shouldn't have said that". That way he would have credited Miley (which he somehow wanted) but we would have all known the problem and that the album is coming out at some point. But blaming the label and making it look like they're just mean to him and now the parting way thing is just acting like a stubborn child. This way he is neither anti and cool for saying it nor a professional.
The Central post is end October, not that long ago, probably after Morrissey's mentions of Miley, so did she change her mind about being credited around then?

Im not happy about any of this .
I'm pissed I'm in LA for Xmas without Fam
I was listening to M today and speaking to a work Mate (also huge M fan , comes in here time to time )He is convinced the LP will be out shortly .
I'm not now . He's even left management company . "Voluntary"
dropped like a brick FFS

Though, Vauxhall for me is the best Morrissey album production, yet to be beat. Followed by Ronson’s Your Arsenal.

I’m not really a fan of modern drum sounds, to me drums should be felt not so heard, is best I can explain it.
Vauxhall is just magic.

It probably is Miley and that is likely the reason Rebels was chosen as the first single instead of Veronica too
It's a better song really than Veronica, instantly likeable-- obviously more Smiths-like but nothing wrong there.

This shit is so overblown. The only people falling over Morrissey being “toxic” are woke evangelists, clickbait “journalists”, and people who weren’t actual fans to begin with. He’s still considered royalty by other legendary musicians and anyone in entertainment with a brain.

Do you hope what he's saying is true? Could it be Feb is still on?
For Morrissey and for the people who want to hear the rest of the album and buy it, yes I do hope it's true

I'm a bit gutted the Miley vocals will be taken off, but I'm still itching for the record.

We do have the live versions with Miley's voice, so a second version is not all that bad.

Bonus track 😂

I actually did not like the Miley vocals, I think Alain's sound much better. I have always enjoyed Alain's voice with Morrissey's.

If Alain provides the new backing that would be fantastic.

I have always been of the opinion Alain is his best partner. Other than Marr of course.

Maybe Moz intended for a female voice specifically though.

Kate Bush would be a dream 😂

Never gonna happen I know

I don't think Miley ever talked about being on it like the other artists did.
I think Alain sounds a million times better than she does singing the backing vocals, I was truly disappointed she was on a Morrissey album.
Isn't she basically attaching herself like a barnacle to any 80s artist who will have her now?
Remember that poster here who said he has inside info (no, not Dirk) and he said a new single would come out first, which seemed to hint it was not Veronica? Because why not just say Veronica, like Morrissey did? I asked and he didn't reply.
Anyway, this does not seem to line up with the announcement from Central, did I miss a post saying it was an artist issue?
Yes Alain seems to be the best fit for vocals with Morrissey, his vocals just suit best, always have

I like Alain the best, Stephen Street too. Not a Kate Bush fan tho!

She came in like a wrecking ball indeed.
