Two things from last night:
I purchased the desirable front row (AA), thinking i will get to be right on the rails, boy was I wrong...when I came to my seat, there were already full line of people standing there, none had the AA ticket, security didn't care, WTH!!!???
However, karma paid me back, he threw the shirt just far enough behind those people, so I've managed to caught the entire shirt :)

Amazing how young some of the New Yorkers in the "different camera angle videos" look with their immaculate skin. Definitely not teenagers any longer though.
On Saturday night there were 3 teenage girls in the 3rd row that spent most of the time recording the show on their phones.. in portrait instead of landscape. They didn't seem to know many of the songs.

On Saturday night they wouldn't even let people near the barrier once the videos started.

I'm glad you got something extra because what happened to you is a huge peeve of mine.
I had to get Julia removed from my seat once. I told her she needed to move and she kept telling me it was ok. I told security (Boston Orpheum) that she didn't have a seat there and they made her move.

There is something of the Animals' House of the Rising Sun to be found in the Lil Girl, or vice versa.

Tiny Tim had a vast knowledge of traditional
American music, it’s songs and history. I assumed there must have been some cross pollination of the music somewhere along the line for those songs to sound so similar. But I couldn’t find info on it, though I didn’t dig very deep.

Well done 😀
Unfortunately there’s number of the self-entitled brigade that feel it’s their right to be at the front and it’s where Moz wants them to be. They couldn’t be more deluded.
Great you got the shirt 😚

FWD,

This was also played at the show, audio only, what a fun song ….

besides the jaunty strangeness of the music, lyrically I think we can see why M would like this one …

I went out to see if I could fall in love again.
That was my mistake.
That was my mistake.
I went out to see if I could raise a laugh again.
That was my mistake.
That was my mistake.
When all I needed was a friend,
To make me stop and think again,
Pull me up and pull me through.
Tally ho, your health my dear.
I went out to see if I could live for a couple of days.
That was my mistake.
That was my mistake.
One by one I counted all those happiest of days.
Yeah, That was my mistake.
Why, That was my mistake.
What's gone is gone, sweet memories,
Don't let them get the best of me,
No more lost in history,
No more lost for love.
When all I needed was a friend,
To make me stop and think again,
The call to arms is loud and clear.
Tally ho, your health my dear.
I went out to see if I could fall in love again,
That was my mistake.
Why, that was my mistake.
One by one I counted all those happiest of days
That was my mistake.
That was my mistake.
That was my mistake, etc.

Paraphrasing from memory some of Moz's hilariou between song banter from last night's show:

If you've never had liquid magnesium, then you really should. . .

How glorious it must be to wake up every mornning in a city where all the greats of stage, screen, music and blah, blah, blah. . . have roamed. . . .as oppossed to someplace like "Scanton, NJ. (Scranton is in PA)

and

"Here's a song you've never asked for. . . . "

dnuer

dnuer is that not a bit of a lottery for his fans, not everyone is a fan of acoustic sets, they might feel a bit left out after some people get a greatest hits show.
i wont do any jokes about shooting frank turner.
Understood, and agreed to some degree. It (the acoustic set) was advertised as such as part of the 4 night residence. So, fans knew what they were getting. The other cool thing Frank does (as do other bands) is he sells the event at a discount if you buy all 4 nights. Imagine the excitement if Mozzer did something like this for the 4 NYC shows (or even the Vegas residencies). I know for a fact that MANY fans would love it if he'd do an all acoustic set... LOVE it!

I also know there are a lot of fans content to go see the same songs played each and every night and as long as they're happy with that, that's cool. Sincerely. I'm guessing if we took a poll here asking if fans would prefer 4 shows at the same venue with an almost identical set list each night or M doing night one acoustic, night two a collection of songs from a certain era, three a random album of his in its entirety with b-sides and night four a greatest hits show, they'd overwhelmingly choose the latter (I would without question). That's if we ignore the faction of the fanbase that want him to play only what he wants to (which I'm actually mostly in agreement with... discussion for another time. He could do that the rest of the tour, but these 4 nights could be special). He'd have sold out all for of those NY shows in short order if he'd have followed this format.

Lastly... and I'm not being critical of the current lineup, another advantage Frank has is that his band has remained relatively intact and consistent for well over a decade. And he's played solo for about half as many years as M has and has done roughly twice as many shows. Because he also doesn't swap band members as if they were... let's say "lawnmower parts", each of them know ALL the songs and he can do these kinds of shows without sacrificing anything.

With due respect, M is an icon and a legend... BUT, he could learn a thing or two from the likes of FT. I do wonder if anyone (band/management) suggests shaking things up a bit and he shoots it down or if everyone else is also content and just happy to be a part of the machine and never suggests anything new.

Ramblings over for now.

On the current US tour (9 nights so far), we have had 23 different songs (including the 2 covers). It is a setlist heavier on singles and Smiths songs, which works for most occasions but not for this residency. The bottleneck is a band of very recent musicians put together to finish the remaining bits of touring.
Just read this after replying to another comment. I noted much the same. He "may" be limited by the plug and play nature of the musicians in the band. I do think this is a bit of a "benefit of the doubt" outlook, though... they are (or should be) good enough to learn twice as man y songs... especially with the breaks (scheduled/cancellations) in touring they've all had. Without naming names, a previous member learned up ~60 songs in under two months (some of which were admittedly in the vault of the mind from having played them years ago... even if it was over 15 years ago lol). My point is... it's definitely doable, but I agree, it's definitely an easier row to hoe if the same people are involved year after year.

I think most of the more intelligent beings here have come to the conclusion that the members are skilled enough to learn any song.

I think it’s also safe to assume that in the end
the set list is entirely up to Morrissey.
Regardless of whether you like Jeff Beck or not if Carmen can learn Beck's setlist I promise you she can learn anything from Morrissey or the Smiths. It is like learning your multiplication table after studying advanced calculus.

the two new girls gives the band a bit of glamour rather than the five hairy arsed guys we had for donkeys years.
i would rather have a newbie over somebody like bozz who was phoning it in for years,he always looked like he wanted to be somewhere else.

I feel Jesse is skilled enough to learn the basic "gist" of a song but not skilled enough to play it properly. I think he tries for the basic idea and goes on from there. I don't think he has the innate ability to play (anything) with intricacy and finesse. He always opts for heavy-handedness which detracts from so many great songs. It's a shame, really.

Apples and oranges. The Smiths guitar parts are not blues-based, but are influenced by folk, funk and post-punk. You can’t just noodle or power chord your way through them.
