Thanks to Sean for the cap - no link to OP.

More likely to be an error, which I hope he has since corrected. If you check on FreeBMD (sad, I must find something useful to do today) it shows Steven. FreeBMD is a public site showing the records from England and Wales.
Exactly, I was looking it up in Johnny Rogan‘s book and the birth certificate clearly says Steven. So strange that a Stephen passport exists, and now even confirmed by Morrissey that it‘s actually his. If I (or my mom) would have received a passport with my name spelled wrong…

This must be one of the downsides of being a 'celebrity' - having people trawl through the minutiae of your life and bring up chunks of your past in public that you didn't necessarily want shared with the world. Despite the invasion of privacy though, I don't think those photos are anything to be ashamed of - young Moz looks ace here - so hopefully he's not too put out.

Agree he looks fab.

I think he'll be far more distressed by the fact that this item and who knows what else went AWOL from his mother's possessions in the first place.

This is probably the tip of an iceberg of stolen items which may, or may not, continue to surface.

I seem to recall reading an interview, years ago, where he recounted a tale of being chased and/or beaten up in his teens by a gang of Perry Boys -- on a bus maybe? Apocryphal or not, given his evident appearance in the 1970s, it would be difficult to imagine being a young person at that time, seeing him around and not wanting to permanently disfigure him.

Are you saying 'Death Of A Disco Dancer' was a diary entry about how he thought he'd get corpsed for impersonating Sylvester at The Hacienda?...plausible...

So, the top photo (of "the bearer") is when the passport was issued in 1973, and Mozz was 14. The "wife" photo was added in May 1976 ("Recent photograph of the bearer"), and then the stripy shirt one added in July 1978 (ditto, page 9), when the passport was renewed for another 5 years.

That must have been how things were done in the 70s. These days kids just have the same photo for 5 years, even though they look nothing like that after that time has passed. That's progress!
...you're my wife now, Dave...

This also brings to mind Lifeguard On Duty

The center of the town is a dangerous zone
Drenched in phlegm every time that I come home

The last bus home is the dangerous one
A baseball bat against the collarbone

I'm wondering why the second photo was required, isn't it designated for the wife (femme)?
Presumably after Ms Dwyer's death some form of clear-out was necessary, as it is following the death of anyone; so who was in charge and responsible for the casual disposal of such a sensitive document? Its appearance for sale online is indeed an egregious act - shame on those aiming to profit from it.

A bit of a Mick Ronson vibe going on in the photo?
It is an interesting thought - would The Smiths have been the success they were without Morrissey sporting a quiff? It was a very wise haircut decision - that just may have changed the course of musical history...

You may have something there. Right coif, right time. More has been written about the Mexican connection, that's for sure.

If I had found that I’d never tell a soul and it would be mine foreeeevvvveeerrrr.
Me too, but I couldn't resist dangling it front of those elitist, gatekeeping Smiths rarities collectors (you know the ones), offer to sell it to them, and then tell them I've changed my mind and take the offer off the table.
