TTY - Kiss Me A Lot Official Video directed by Sam Esty Rayner

As I read the name Sam Esty Rayner I feared the worst ... and what can I say ... it's even worse than I'd imagined. The boy knows nothing (unfortunately). Watch for yourself ...

'Those girls' represent Morrissey's artistic vision to the world. The director has stated that this video is Morrissey's concept. 'Those girls' are hired hands/mammary glands and they are merely earning a fee for a few hours modelling. However, what they do when they consent to be props in Morrissey's fantasy is add to the tsunami of gratuitously sexualised images of young women with 'approved' cosmetic images and body shapes. There are no plus-size women, no women of Morrissey's age, no women of colour, no women post-masectomy, so we can assume that Morrissey's kissy-kissy fantasy landscape is inhabited by women such as those selected for the video.

Economic necessity may be the reason why these women agreed to appear in a fantasy music video for a multi-millionaire middle-aged male pop singer, but by taking part, they do indeed impact on other women, especially those women who do not meet the exacting criteria to model lingerie in this exacting fantasy landscape. These women act out a very obvious heterosexist fantasy that women exist for male entertainment and play roles in a narrative which easily fits into a masturbatory scenario involving either Heterosexual Male Privilege as Participant or Heterosexual Male Privilege as Spectator to Lesbian Sex. Or both.

The only fly in the ointment for Heterosexual Male Privilege is Morrissey waving his hands around to distract attention back to his pasty features. What is the difference between Hugh Heffner's playboy club and this video?

I have no idea why you regard criticism of this absurd video as being evidence of activity by 'Feminnazi' activists, though the choice of such a word is deeply revealing assuming you are aware of it's origin. I am a cis male and do not identify as a 'feminist' yet I find this video repellent and ridiculous. If I want to watch beautiful young women modeling lingerie whilst singing, then I will watch Taylor Swift selling lingerie for 'Victoria's Secret'. She is economically independent and is choosing to model such garments for profit and pleasure, not because some creepy middle age man is paying her to do so. And watching her sing 'Style' whilst her beautiful cast of women collaborators dance around her without an ugly middle-aged man invading the screen is a welcome recovery antidote to Morrissey's video.

I hope Taylor's commercial link to Victoria's Secret will expand to embrace the diversity of body shapes she featured at the end of the 'Shake It Up' video but that's a minor quibble at this stage. She is 24. If she was 57 and still only featuring beautiful young people then that would be as troubling as Madonna and Morrissey's latest videos. There is something creepy about middle-age multi-millionaires like Morrissey and Madonna buying young flesh to adorn their pop confections. You will note that I am not a sexist and apply exactly the same logic and standards to Morrissey and Madonna. Both Madonna and Morrissey wear designer fashionista garments that are more usually seen on people half their age. Whilst some may find this a radical gesture I think it's merely a boastful exhibition of their purchasing power and a rather desperate attempt to turn back the clock.

I trust this detailed reply is helpful to you and I'm grateful to you for helping to continue the fascinating debate on this thread.

Brummie listen, you know i know everyone knows that the girls are there because sam wanted them to be there.
Sam most likely Said it was morrisseys concept not to get so viciously hounded as he did. Chances are morrissey gave the assignment to sam because he a) did not care that much about the video b) he did have a limited budget or c) the wanted to help his nephews carrer

Re: MORRISSEY TROLLS HETEROSEXISM. WHO KNEW? *rollseyes*

Asexual?! His descriptions of his relationship with Jake were sexual. How could you make such a claim without even knowing?

Morrissey has publicly denied that his relationship with 'Jake' was homosexual. He did so immediately after his descriptions of that relationship were published in his 'Autobiography' and assumed to be a disclosure of a homosexual romantic affair. He denied he was homosexual and claimed he could only be described by a new word he made up: Humasexual. Here's his press release on the subject:

19 October 2013

"Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual. I am attracted to humans. But, of course ... not many".

-MORRISSEY, Sweden, 19 October 2013.

http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_131019_01

He thinks it is 'unfortunate' that he is not homosexual but still asserts he is 'humasexual' which leaves the possible subjects of his desire as females and transgender persons who are not male. The video for 'Kiss Me A Lot' seems to imply that he is sexually attracted to conventionally beautiful models in lingerie unless one of them is transgender, which is possible.

This is all news to me. I had always assumed he was either asexual or so damaged by the homophobic propaganda of his Catholic childhood that the option of homosexuality was never available to him. I have never regarded him as signifying heterosexuality, though it's entirely possible that he is indeed str8 and I am mistaken in my interpretations of his use of queer signs and symbolism.

I do not make any claims whatsoever. I can only interpret his public signals. When I see a rich middle age man purchase female flesh for a pop video I assume he is either heterosexual or wishes the world to believe he is. As he had ruled out homosexuality, without affirming heterosexuality, then it was logical to assume he was asexual until this video disclosure of what appears to be a heteronormative sexual fantasy about models in lingerie. It's all terribly fascinating. *rollseyes*

Calling himself humansexual does not suggest he is asexual, it does not mean he never had a sexual relationship with him. Just implying he is attracted to both male and female.

Over 400 comments later, this nutty thread is still going strong. Chill pill time…

The song is catchy, if throwaway, Morrissey. It deserves some airplay this summer.
Video is bad but will only be a slightly embarrassing blip in years to come. (Moz looks good in it, at least).

I hope your chill pill has relaxed you. It's interesting that some can see this video as an 'embarrassing blip' whilst others see it as an apocalyptic revelation. I hope you enjoyed reading the 400 comments. I find it all *fascinating*

No, Sam has stated on Facebook that the video concept is Morrissey's, not his. He is hardly likely to lie about his role as director as to do so would render him unemployable for future projects with other artists.

Morrissey is responsible for the video and has every opportunity to clarify his intent and meaning, just as he did when he quickly denied he was homosexual when his Autobiography lead people to believe he was. There's nothing to stop him now denying he is heterosexual, is there?

Jesus, i feel bad for morrissey never getting any slack from anyone
And i feel bad for fans who loved what the smiths were and the early solo stuff.
God does anyone remember that witty, charming boy who still actully cared.
Does he even remember how he was or does he even remember Manchester anymore.
If morrissey allows this video, does it not signal that his sort of given up.
Morrissey you have had one hell of an legacy it's no shame in keeping it that way and gracefully bow out.
He needs, he deserves some peace and understanding of his legacy

Quit the f***en act, aren't you tired?

The same things were said about Jake.

Yes! Totally normal for a man to be with his boss every day of the year including sharing a hotel room on vacation.

Perhaps 'Damon' is Morrissey's butler? And perhaps Morrissey has a fear of sleeping alone in a hotel room in case some crazed fan breaks in and tries to have sex with him? If Morrissey was sharing a hotel room because he was involved in a sexual relationship with someone, why on earth would he hide that information? It simply doesn't make sense unless you think he's ashamed of homosexuality as an orientation/biological status/lifestyle choice. I've never heard him make any homophobic remarks and can't think of any reason why he'd hide being in a sexual relationship with a man if that were the case. Decades ago it would probably have damaged sales or even ended a pop career, now he would most likely find a public surge of approval were he to fly any gay rainbow flag as a backdrop onstage. The only possible reason I can imagine he would deny such a thing is if he is still affected by the homophobic Catholic propaganda of his childhood, but even if that were the case, it's something to have compassion for, not ridicule. Surely?

He was in the f*cking Smiths. He has the right to take it easy, legacy completed

What f***en act, he clearly is not happy with his career now
Jesus must every artist work until they are dead.

How the f*** do you know he isn't happy with his career? He seems invigorated on stage. Go watch a a Smiths video.

I'm afraid you do not have the status and standing on this forum to call anyone a 'loon'. If your only response to anyone you disagree with is to denigrate mental health sufferers, then you have more problems than I initially thought.

There is no reason why this 'Sam' might not get future projects. He has shown that he can create controversy and ignite online debate. I am sure that was part of the brief that Morrissey gave him and I am sure there are many other middle-aged C list celebrities who would like a Sam-tastic makeover with nubile models in lingerie!

We will see, if Sam gets any future work that does not include his uncle, c-lister or some awful up and coming artist.
Ps you can call me a loon back ;)
I won't mind it as much as you do.

Nobody is forcing Morrissey to work. He is a multi-millionaire. He chooses not to retire. He may be addicted to fame, to te spotlight, but that's his choice not to seek treatment if he's obsessional about 'fame'.

Have you seen some of the posts on this forum.

Just the morrissey frink thread is a indication

'Those girls' are hired hands/mammary glands and they are merely earning a fee for a few hours modelling. So what??? he wanted women who look like that in the video, if he had plus size women instead, that would be his fantasy landscape of women but that would be ok? that is very shallow of you.
