TTY - Kiss Me A Lot Official Video directed by Sam Esty Rayner

As I read the name Sam Esty Rayner I feared the worst ... and what can I say ... it's even worse than I'd imagined. The boy knows nothing (unfortunately). Watch for yourself ...

Re: Article: "Kiss Me A Lot" official video directed by Sam Esty Rayner - TTY

Thanks for your advice Brummie but the only person who can tell me what I should do, is my wife.

Nice to see you are still playing your little games with unsuspecting responders.

You continue to respond to me only to protest that you think the discussion is pointless. It's not clear to me why you waste your time doing this. Maybe your wife can tell you.

What is this really all about?
The three mental cases just don't get Morrissey any more which has become the norm here, they go on and on without insight which is nothing new. BrummieBoy joins the crew and leads the way to the nuthouse
The video certainly isn't very good - but why?
Is it the perceieved objectification of woman? Interesting that the video has provoked such a debate, I imagine as time passes Sam and Morrissey will become more and more pleased with the reaction generally. I suppose the question is in a post feminist world where should we stand on sexual objectification?

"I think a sex symbol is possibly the best thing to be." Morrissey (1983)
“I think I must be, absolutely, a total sex object. In every sense of the word." Morrissey (1989)

No one was exploited or oppressed in the making of that video - thats a fact
The problem with the video for me is the camera wobble it looks amateurish which is a shame. Its a low budget performance video but it doesn't have to look amateurish not in this this day and age. It all looks a little rushed.

Nevermind its better than nothing and has provoked a debate however tired and ill imformed.

I think the girls are sexy

Brummie, it is most likely that the women were compleatley sams idea, since it goes with his previous work. It is most likely that Sam said it was morrissey concept to not be blamed.

I'm pretty sure that morrissey did not know about the ladies until the final results appeared, and decided that is nephew could go forth with his video since he did not what to hurt his feelings or something similar
I do not think your theory is correct about these ladies being his fantasy landscape or his trying to be a mans man .

I am gaining nothing from continuing to respond to your repetitious complaints. Please feel free to continue with your ruminations on this thread but I would prefer if you desist from linking to my name as I find your continued attempts to engage with me tiresome. I am under no obligation to reply to somebody who has exhibited such poor impulse control and resorted to redundant insults. I will engage with you again if and when you make an interesting or novel point.

Who are you calling the Three Mental Patients? That original accolade was given by Kristeen Young to Viva Hate, Skylarker and NHNS, if I recall correctly. It seems you are referring to others, but who? Though the Original Mentalist Three have 'risen from the grave' to briefly comment on this video debacle, they have shown restraint and certainly haven't gone 'on and on'. Nor has John Barleycorn or Benny The Butcher. So, I've no idea who you're referring to or who you think I've joined to lead this thread to any supposed 'nuthouse'.

Not everybody accepts that we live in a 'post feminist world'. Some would argue that those women were exploited and oppressed in the making of that video as they were used as a flesh-whiteboard for men to scrawl their lyrics on when an ordinary white-board would have sufficed. You are expressing opinion as fact.

The girls look confused and amateurish. It's fine for Morrissey to objectify himself as an imaginary sex symbol. I've never heard anyone describe him as such. It's a different matter for Morrissey to objectify young women as sex objects to get eyeballs on his 'sexy' video. Is it really better than nothing? I'm not so sure. However I am having great fun on this thread debating the latest artistic implosion to arise from the bunker.

Re: MORRISSEY TROLLS HETEROSEXISM. WHO KNEW? *rollseyes*

It seems unlikely that Morrissey would be so foolish as to present himself alongside scantily clad women in a song suggesting they are engaged in a mutual desire to heterosexually "kiss all over the place" whilst conducting a clandestine affair for 8 years with a male employee.

Hehe. Damon seems to be very tolerant of his Master's trolling. Incredibly so. I think Morrissey puts sedatives in his food. Can't explain it otherwise. Hidden extreme perversity? With that face? Sid from the Ice Age looks like evil incarnate in comparison. Doreen in Nemo would make me more nervous.

Back in the days, in the very beginning of the Trolling Times, even if the internet didn't exist, you could feel a bit more tension. Although very dimly aware of his existence, (borderline not at all) you could feel Jake Walters could creep up on you at any moment in a public park and thump you because he was upset with someone else, which was only fair. Hell, he'd probably have headbutted those lingerie models, out of jealousy, without paying heed to the fact his lover was never in the same room as them anyway...

I don't know. There was just more excitement in the air.

To think Morrissey never even bothered to introduce us to his proper Italian... He never got a chance to throw spicy oil on Solo, threaten to commit suicide and then break down crying in our arms.
What. a. feckin. waste.

So, after reading hundreds and hundreds of comments, I 've finally watched the video and it's obvious that many of you havve not connected with Sam's vision. Clearly the video is a deeply philosophical perspective of Morrissey's isolation as a talented, non-conformist lyricist, trying to exist in a vacuous, Kardashian culture that ignores a literary genious while systematically idolizing the likes of botoxed housewives; corporately contrived boy bands; and vapid, talentless media-whore celebrities who have attained fame by uttering mono-syllabic catchphrases like "that's hot" in some barely coherent "Hollywood speak".

Just look at the loneliness in Morrissey's eyes as he stands on the stage, longing, as he has for decades, for his words to connect with the audience on a deeper intellectual and emotional level, something that he has been told from the very beginning of his career would be an impossible goal to achieve. While he has always struggled to maintain some modicum of dignity and integrity, alas, there have been times when he has been forced to bend rather than break. Let's not forget that he was once the vision of youthful beauty with messages scrawled across his torso, allowing himself to be objectified with the hope that some of the gawkers would have a moment of epiphany and actually connect with the emotional revelations of his words.

But time is unkind to beautiful people and pop stars, and Morrissey's current dilema is trying to validate himself to prospective record companies who are likely to say "yes, he is phenomonally talented, but does anyone really care about that? How can we make a 55 year old poet relevant to today's audience... casual dug use, gratuitous sexual imagery, frivolous pop videos... how about all of the above?"

Don't blame Morrissey or Sam for illuminating the flaws of a social media driven world; blame yourselves for applauding, or at least complacently accepting, the lowest common denominator of entertainment and mass marketing. Unfortunately, Sam's message will soar over the head's of the masses. He would be best advised to re-shoot this video using very cute cats. A grumpy-looking, older cat could be used to symbolize Morrissey's isolated, disillusioned existence as it watches other happy, 'normal' cat couples expressing acceptance and affection as they lick each other's faces to "Kiss Me A Lot".

He's very sweet looking and probably puts up with it all because he's in love and doesn't care.

Moz was public with Gelato in the sense that there's 2 photos of them with their arms around eachother's shoulders and they were seen out together everywhere. Poor damon has to stay in the background.

OK, i get it. This is 'fan fiction'? And 'Damon' is a fictional character? Yes? In that case these wild gossipy claims are of no more importance than CG's sexual fantasies about Morrissey. I understand that Morrissey had a homosocial affair with Jake Walters but that there was no erotic element to their relationship. It's probable that a similar confusion has arisen with regard to this 'Damon' who is variously described as a hairdresser or personal assistant. I think he's probably a butler, though perhaps not trained to Downton Abbey standards.

Is the reference to 'his proper Italian' regarding the character called 'Gelato' in 'Autobiography'? Was/is he another employee in the entourage? What does he do? I assume he's a chef and makes excellent ice-cream? I wish Morrissey had provided a flow-chart in his autobiography so I could follow all this. There's no mention of anyone called Damon, is there? If he's been on the payroll for 8 years he can't be a very significant person, never mind a Significant Other, or he'd have featured in the Autobiography as it went up to 2011, if I recall.

I can't wait for Volume 2 of Autobiography when we will perhaps gain more information about these mysterious employees. The more I find out about this Morrissey character the more enjoyable the whole soap opera of this site becomes. If only there was some real scandal rather than just silly Lads Loaded Soft Porn videos like KMAL. I guess Morrissey could always leak a sex tape if the media refuse to give him enough face time for trolling feminism. It worked for Paris Hilton.

I'm glad you've realised I'm not exactly taking this whole drama seriously. As Morrissey himself sings on "Art Hounds": "My life is soap-opera, Photoshopped soap opera". I can't wait for the film version of 'Autobiography'.

Yes, posing with his head resting on Jake's crotch wasn't erotic at all.

Damon Anacreonte is a real person that was thanked first in the book and was a successful london barber. He has been by Morrissey's side constantly for the past 8 years. Why are you refusing to believe Morrissey has sex with men? What is wrong with you?

He didn't detail his relationship with damon in the book because it is ongoing and would have sparked public interest resulting in a loss of the privacy he has. The Jake thing caused him enough grief.

I still haven't forgiven you for comparing my Moz crush to Cliff Richard though. That was just cruel.

Hi Brummie

As well as the above if I remember rightly there's a bloke called 'security Liam' who caught the squirts with Steven. He could be security or comfort blanket you never know with Steven's cryptic descriptions.

Unfortunately your elegantly argued case collapses once we mention the name Leonard Cohen, who has managed to retain and enlarge his audience as he reaches 80, playing to millions of his audience world-wide, supremely indifferent to the supposedly superficial culture you disdain. He focuses on what he has to offer rather than berating a youth culture that he has no connection with.

Cohen’s live concert tours were met with extraordinary and unanimous accolades as he performed around the world from 2008 through 2013. His mesmerizing performances totaled 470 shows in 31 countries, attended by four million fans.

What you have done is remixed Morrissey's rant about The BRITS music awards. There is absolutely no reason why Morrissey is entitled to a large audience merely because he is a heritage act from the prehistoric era before the Interwebs when there was nothing to do except listen to dire CDs all the way through. At least young people today have Selfie Culture where everybody is a star for a few seconds and the supposed 'superstars' of yore are regarded as museum pieces unless they can still dish up the goods today. And, y'know, who'd actually want to listen to a whole CD? And if you've heard one by Morrissey why would you want to hear another when there's so much other stuff to enjoy? It seems that many young people no longer fall for the scam of the 'serious artist' with an entitlement agenda. I applaud their choices.

Morrissey could have had a similar audience to Leonard Cohen but chose to squander it through his cantankerous outbursts. There's nobody else who is responsible, not record companies or 'celebrity culture'. The alternative explanation to yours is that Morrissey is a bitter, twisted man who simply cannot accept that he now presents himself as mutton dressed as lamb in designer jeans to an audience whose only interest in him is to use as a feed for their Selfie Stream. He has created his own fate.

I know young people who went to see him in Birmingham because it was something to do to crank up the weekend on a Friday night, but they were really pissed becuz he didn't play The Hits so they just organised their diary and hook-ups for later that night on Broad Street. If Morrissey presents himself through the parameters of 'trash culture', as he does in this video for KMAL, one can hardly be shocked when he is taken at his word and judged according to the harsh standards of youthful transient beauty. And it is surely possible to comment on the excesses of celebrity culture without using gratuitous sexism and nudity, as the following video from The Chainsmokers does with humour, wit and style. If you are saying that Morrissey is contemptuous of beautiful young women who wear lingerie to nightclubs and ignore his music, then I think that's entirely possible. But that's his problem, not theirs.

"Can you guys help me pick a filter?
I don't know if I should go with XX Pro or Valencia
I wanna look tan
What should my caption be?
I want it to be clever
How about "Livin' with my bitches, hash tag Morrissey LIVE25"
I only got 10 likes in the last 5 minutes
Do you think I should take it down?
Let me take another selfie"

agreed. while this may be a good interpretation theres not enough of a tip off to say its about that specifically which is do to production and execution. if that is the statement intended by the video then its failure lies on that level and not necessarily the concept. this idea would also work better if it were attached to any other song but kiss me a lot the only real joyous kinda happy light moment on the album. if it were attached to mountjoy perhaps then i could see the poet being ignored a little more clearly and maybe the videos "concept" would more successful

"I think a sex symbol is possibly the best thing to be." Morrissey (1983)
“I think I must be, absolutely, a total sex object. In every sense of the word." Morrissey (1989)

I think he said that sarcastically

I think this is an occam's razor case, the simplest explanation is most likely the correct one.
Sam has an style, which he forced upon this song with this video and it was a miss
As simple as that, no political agenda or something else

Ps morrissey always has sadness in his eyes

Re: MORRISSEY TROLLS HETEROSEXISM. WHO KNEW? *rollseyes*

Perhaps he fainted and the photo misrepresents the situation? I am aware that this Jake daubed ink over Morrissey's Arse'n'all, or was that Gelato? Damon? Maybe Morrissey thinks daubing ink on peoples buttocks or breasts is an entirely anondyne pastime and nobody should read anything into it. Perhaps that's why those girls get a good dose of felt tip in the KMAL video? I'm confused now. I have a slight headache!

I refuse to believe that Morrissey has sex with men because he never mentions doing so in his 'Autobiography' and was very quick to deny he was a homosexual when people erroneously suggested he was for having a homosocial relationship with Jake. There's nothing wrong with me. If Morrissey has had sex with men throughout the period that 'Autobiography' covers then I'm sure he'll rectify the omission in Volume 2. Perhaps he wanted a family friendly version first? No, there was no sex with men. If there was and he failed to disclose it then his autobiography is a sham and he is a hypocrite for presenting himself as heterosexual in this video for KMAL. There's nothing wrong with me. Except a slight headache which I'll now remedy with a paracetamol before rejoining this exciting discussion!
